SMP and resigning from work

Apologies if I’ve posted this is the wrong section..

My partner and I are buying a property in another part of the country and I will be leaving my job which I’ve had for 15 years. We are also planning to start trying for a baby in the near future. Currently I have no plans to find another job before I leave my current employment (we can manage monetary till I find a job in the area)

I have had my current job for years, so I would qualify for SMP, when I resign, I would have to give a 3 month notice period to leave. I’m wondering if I got pregnant in the near future, would I be able to leave (resign) my job and still be able to claim SMP from my employer, and if so at what week would I be able to leave my job?

I have had a look online, and it appears that this is possible as long as I am still in employment up until the 15th week before the baby is due to be born, can anyone confirm this or has done something similar?

Obviously this all hypothetical, as I’m quite aware that getting pregnant is not always as easy as some may think, so I’m under no illusions that it will all go to plan ‘so to speak’, but as I’m moving quite a way away, I would like to see if it is possible to do this with as much financial help (that I’m entitled to) as possible
