Mortgage protection

I have received a mortgage by my bank and going to see a Mortgage Protection broker tomorrow . Is Mortgage protection mandatory ? Is their a minimum requirement ? I am aware of the risks required but at the same time don't want to be sold the whole works . I would create a reserve for a rainy day if I did lose my job . Obviously with sickness /accident one never really knows ? Any thoughts to assist me ? thanks

Its not mandatory, no. If you don't want it, why are you going to see a mortgage protection broker? (whatever one of thise is!)

I have it and it was invaluable when I was made redundant and couldn't get a job for a few months, it paid my mortgage.
