Finally cleared my credit card

I don't want to annoy anyone but I just wanted to tell someone that today I finally cleared the last balance owed on my credit card!

About five years ago my hours were cut in work and I just was randomly using my credit card to live. Three years ago I finally was brave enough to go through all my balances and I owed £6k.

I was meeting the minimum payments and wasn't able to switch to 0% interest for the full amounts so I paid extra where I could etc.

Today I finally cleared the balance and I'm over the moon. I need to set myself a strict budget now to make sure it doesn't happen again.

No one in RL, not even DH, knew how bad I had let it get, I couldn't face telling anyone so I'm determined going forward things will be better!

Brilliant well done, feels great doesnt it ? .. I did that a few years ago , I would recommend you look at getting YNAB for setting a budget going forwards. Yes you do have to pay for it , but its really great .and definately worth it IMHO . I got it about 3 years ago and have never looked back .. we paid off the mortgage and I even have savings now!

Laska5772 · 18/04/2017 20:36

oh and you can reset it to show £s rather than dollars ,

Bellaposy · 18/04/2017 20:39

Congratulations! It's a massive achievement.

Fabulous news! Well done Grin. I remember clearing (finally) my cc debt, donkey's years ago. I went into the bank and paid the final instalment, smiling broadly at the chap behind the counter whilst telling him that was the last of my payments. He looked puzzled and I later realised that lots of people clear their balances monthly so he didn't understand what a huge deal it was to me at the time. Grin You must be hugely relieved - great feeling!

jollyjester · 18/04/2017 22:12

It's such a relief. I've just started back to work after maternity leave so I need to be careful as I budgeted so well during my leave that I cant let the extra money coming in make me feel like a millionaire!

I already meal plan but stupidly DH came grocery shopping and went a bit over board in the Lidl surprise aisles!

Congratulations OP! I've managed to get rid of 4 stupid loans I took out and now I'm onto The Final Loan and it's a big one- same as yours about £5000. I'm glad you posted because I can't see the end! I'm aiming to pay it off by early next year.

MaitlandGirl · 20/04/2017 02:41

I'm so looking forward to the day I can clear mine - still got nearly 3 years left on it but I'm plugging along and throwing extra $$ towards it when I can.

Thank you all! I'll join you on the frugaleers thread.

Yesterday my car broke down which in the past would have panicked me but I now have a small emergency fun for things like this without worrying about the debt as well.
