As the last thread is almost full, here is a nice fresh clean one.

In a nutshell, matched betting is a clever way of making ££££ from the bookies without ever having to gamble.

This is profit accumulator

This is odds monkey

Have read. TAKE YOUR TIME!

And enjoy the money Grin

I don't think so, as long as you make sure it's enough to qualify. At least initially, I was reading as time goes on to avoid being gubbed you could put a little bit more on than the minimum but it's hard to find the money to lay it all initially

GardeningWithDynamite · 20/04/2017 18:54

@neonrainbow - most people are finding these offers through free or paid matched betting sites. These sites will tell you exactly what you need to do at each bookie to get the free introductory offer. If you're not doing that then you definitely need to check the bookie's landing page to find the offer and read the terms and conditions very carefully. Lots of people on this thread and the previous one have either wasted a bet by placing at too low odds and had to do another qualifying bet or lost the free bet altogether by doing it wrong.

titchy · 20/04/2017 19:04

Handy tip - make sure you put your lay bet on Betfair Exchange, NOT Betfair Sportsbook.... Do not attempt to do this on your phone as you're pulling into your station......BlushBlushBlush

Having said that the horse won so I'm quids in!!!!! GrinGrinGrin

GardeningWithDynamite · 20/04/2017 19:07

@titchy - think pink for betfair - lay bets are in pink

(on smarkets it's different colours - green and blue - they have lower commission and some people prefer them as simpler to understand. I think they might have a sign up bonus too)

TessTube · 20/04/2017 19:12

I've wasted 50 of free bets by putting on too low odds so def be careful!

foxessocks · 20/04/2017 19:16

Yep I worked out that's what I did wrong on Bet Fred so didn't get the free bet!

AmateurSwami · 20/04/2017 19:32

I missed a free bet too!

TwoScottieDogs · 20/04/2017 19:40

Started matched betting 4 days ago. However, I made a rookie error on the Stan James signup offer (didn't place a bet with high enough odds to qualify for the free bet!) So if I place another bet (at the correct odds this time) will I still qualify for the free bet??

imnottoofussed · 20/04/2017 19:43

You might do as it worked for me on one of the bookies

Choconuts · 20/04/2017 19:52

I've bitten the bullet and signed up to oddsmonkey premium I figure I can always cancel after one month if I don't think it's worth it.

My DH thinks it's hilarious that I am checking the football scores hoping for the result to go in betfairs favour Smile

BlessThisMess · 20/04/2017 19:58

Made an error today but luckily it all worked out. I did one free bet with a stake of £25. Then when my doing my 2nd free bet with another bookmaker, the £25 was still in the oddsmatcher calculation but I didn't notice. My free bet on this one was only £20. So with £25 accidentally as the stake in the calculation, I laid too much at Betfair. Fortunately the horse didn't win, so it all worked out!

KosmoKramer · 20/04/2017 20:20

Evening all. Quick question. I'm just doing a mug bet on Grosvenor to qualify for the cash back.

£10 bet back odds 2.28. Lay bet should have been £10.13 but in my haste I only laid £10. My spreadsheet is telling me it's not the end of the world...but I thought I'd check with you?

neonrainbow · 20/04/2017 20:21

I decided to avoid any issues I'm going to wait for my bets to settle at the weekend and take this at a snail's pace.

concretejungle · 20/04/2017 20:26

Newbie alert!

I've started today.... So far, so good I think.

Coral - 10 qualifying bet (on football which hasn't happened yet), 20 free bets arrived as soon as I submitted my qualifying bet. Put it on horses which I lost on Coral but won the lay on Betfair.

Betfred - 10 qualifying bet on football tonight (with lay at Betfair). Should get my 20 free bet after 48 hours

Hope you can help with a few questions:

  1. What next? Do I just wait for more free bet offers?
  2. What do you think about Coral's offer bet 25 get 10 in free bets? The 10 is 5 online and 5 in a bookies. (I've never been in a bookies!!)
  3. How many accounts do you have for back bets? Should I be using more than just Coral and Betfred? Any recommendations?
  4. How many accounts do you have for lay bets? Should I spread these over more than one bookie?
  5. Is oddsmonkey worth signing up tp? I used Profit Accumulator to get the odds matching data, but unless I pay a monthly fee than I can only Coral and Betfred.
  6. I've read about 'red flags' on this thread, but not sure what that means?
  7. Why are some people setting up separate bank accounts for this?

Thanks all.... Think this is going to be fun :)

TessTube · 20/04/2017 20:28

Scottie I did thar too

Betfred told me tough no

Stan James said "I sure can" place another one - I'm not sure if will pan out but I tried anyway.

Laughsandgiggles · 20/04/2017 20:34

Concrete there are loads of free bets you can take advantage of - just search for freebets.com
However unless you sign up for oddsmonkey or profitaccumulator then you have to be able to find the bet/lays yourself.
I started a week ago and have done 8 bookies so far and have managed to find the right bets to do but it is time consuming and obviously you have to really understand it to get it right.

OverthinkingSpartacus · 20/04/2017 20:44

Placemarking as I'm going to start next week. I've been reading the threads and taking everything in As I wanted to totally understand everything and have been saving while I read everything I can.

Dh knows I'm looking into it, and would happily let me use a few hundred of family money but it's something I kind of want to do and learn for myself so I've just been reading and learning and saving.

We have a jockey in the family too and I know that they'll mean well but I'll be bombarded with "tips" on horses or given advice on how much to bet and on what, told about football teams history, players strong points, likely hood of them winning blah blah blah, whereas I want to choose my own amounts and horses and whatnot. I'll get "told you so" if I don't follow their advice. Like I say, I know they will mean well and will only be trying to help, but it'll end up not being my thing and I'll feel like I'm doing it for them, rather than myself.

I was going to jump in and start at weekend but have just got pneumonia so I m gonna wait til worse of that has fucked off as I'm scatter brained at moment, I'm so excited to start though.

RE OPs affiliated link in OP, I do think it should have been clear in the OP that the OP financially benefits from people signing up from her link, I don't mind using the link as their help on threads etc will be making money for me, I feel it's a thank you for the help but agree it should have been made clear, I was just wondering if loads of people sign up will it flag accounts etc?

Also, which cash back site is best? I've never used cash back sites before and if I'm honest, I'm finding that aspect as overwhelming as rest lol.

neonrainbow · 20/04/2017 20:51

Hi over thinking i used quidco because I've used them before and never had a problem.

BlessThisMess · 20/04/2017 20:59

Concrete, if you go on www.teamprofit.com, which is free, you will find guides there of what to do for the first 4-6 weeks, depending on how much money you want to put in to start with. You need to keep signing up with new bookmakers to get their free bets to start with. I haven't gone any further than that yet so I'm not sure what's beyond it. At the moment I only have the one exchange for lay bets but have signed up for about 6 bookies so far.

BlessThisMess · 20/04/2017 21:02

I've just realised my earlier error was even bigger than I thought. Somehow my back bet at Stan James didn't go through! So in fact I only had my lay bet on, and am even more thankful now that the horse didn't win! This means I still have my Stan James free bet unused so I'll use that tomorrow. £18.99 profit from that error, but it could have been much worse!

titchy · 20/04/2017 21:14

Grrrr bloody bank has declined my latest transaction. Plenty of cash in there (thanks to season ticket loan Blush) but lots of debits to online bookies looks a bit dodgy I guess...!

Verticalvenetianblinds · 20/04/2017 22:39

I'm stuck now. I've done most of the sign up offers and as many free spins as I can but I genuinely don't understand the risk free and multi actions bits? How can I progress?

HeyRoly · 20/04/2017 22:56

Super newbie question!

I'm working through the Oddsmonkey tutorial and have got to the point where I've deposited £5 in my account and want to place my qualifying bet.

However, I haven't yet deposited any money in Betfair account so I need to do that first don't I? Because I need to have money available to make up the liability, correct?

Also, Betfair have an offer:

"Place a £20 bet on the Exchange.
If that bet loses we'll refund you in cash"

What counts as a £20 Exchange bet? Is that a £20 stake (which is not my money, I know) or a £20 liability?

HeyRoly · 20/04/2017 22:56

*£5 into my newly opened Coral account, that should say

HappyAxolotl · 20/04/2017 23:14

plus your tenner if you lost your qualifying bet at the bookie
Nope.
If you lost your tenner at the bookie, you gained close to a tenner at the exchange.

Thanks MaidOfStars, you are right and I was wrong. Though all going well you will make more than £10 using the free bets too! I think that was probably what my brain was trying to say.

GardeningWithDynamite I think a football treble is where you make a bet on the outcome of 3 football matches (so like Everton, Arsenal and Middlesborough all to win or whatever). I think the calculators for them are a bit more complicated.

Yep, I've been googling and that's what it is. It looks like it would be incredibly complicated to match and this is an in-shop offer I got sent at random after using PP for the National (I didn't bet enough to qualify for any other free bets though) so I'll just wander in and have a gamble since it isn't my money I'm wasting.

If anyone hasn't signed up to Betfred yet they are giving £30 free bets and £30 for the casino when you bet £10. Qualifier has to be at odds of 2 or more which seems to be standard.

My £10 qualifier lost me 59p but my £5 free bet won me £3.74 tonight. But that was through losing at the exchange so I need to shift some of my winnings over so I can do the footie again at the weekend. Part of me wishes I'd waited to gather up a bigger float to kick off with as it is very slow progress if I lose a liability, but I'm not off to bad start considering.
