EGG credit cards!Anyone got one?

I'm so !!!! Got email last night from Egg, been with them 6 yrs, always paid more than minimum, and £1000 UNDER my available credit limit, but, I quote from the email I received....

"At Egg, we treat customers as individuals ? both in the service that we provide and in the products we offer. In line with this, we're now personalising the interest rates on your Egg Card based on how you've maintained your account, and our assessment of how you've managed your finances."

so, after this sickly as sugar msg, they put up my apr from 16.9% to 21.9% (that's nearly bloody storecard territory FFS!!!!!)

Has this happened to anyone else, surely its not just me? Sorry this is sooooo boring but I just don't understand how they can get away with it AND they even harp on about 'sensible lending' WELL HOW THE HELL CAN I PAY YOU ALL YOUR MONEY BACK YOU EVIL CREATURES???!!!!

Can I threaten legal action??? (I wouldn't know where to start btw...)

I had a row with them a few months ago and transferred my balance to a card with a HIGHER interest rate just so I could tell them to eff off!
Sympathy. Do a balance transfer and make sure you tell them why.

huskygirl · 07/03/2007 22:12

yep , we had the exact same email. by the way i have not conducted my account in the best of ways, long story but have been over my limit a few times, am now up to my limit and i have the same interest rate as you - who yourself has conducted your account very well, how is that treating people individually!!!!

Millarkie · 07/03/2007 22:15

Hmmm...mine's only gone from 16.9 to 17.9, but then I don't spend on it - it's my 'spare' card for emergencies (I don't really do 'credit')

CountTo10 · 07/03/2007 22:16

Weird but we've just had exactly the same thing but with a different credit card - MBNA. We didn't get any notice though it just appeared on our latest statement when our minimum pment suddenley jumped up. When we rang up about it they said they could make these decisions and that it was tailored but when we pushed them to find out why they had reached that decision they couldn't tell us and that it wasn't something specific. We're in the middle of appealing it as they are supposed to give 30 days notice and they haven't so are in breach of contract. Can't see them backing down on it but it's worth a shot. We'll get rid of it if they don't change it.

MrsMuddle · 07/03/2007 22:17

I have an egg credit card, but I hardly use it now - just for Amazon. Because I don't have much on it, I pay it off in full every month. I didn't get that email, so I presume my rate hasn't changed.

ImaWurzel · 07/03/2007 22:17

I have but i haven't had an e-mail bout this. hmm.

MrsMuddle · 07/03/2007 22:41

I've just gone into my account to see what my rate was, and it's 9.9%. Lizzer, you should complain at the very least, and move to another card if you can.

Lizzer · 08/03/2007 17:29

Thanks for your messages, I emailed them and they have emailed me to say there is a secure msg for me on there website. Suprise, suprise I can't access it cos its down. ARGH! Glad I'm not the only on who this has happened to. They definitely didn't give 30 days notice, they emailed on the 5th and said it would change on the 12th! So maybe I could appeal like you have done, Countto10.. Well mayb I'll know more when I get on the bleeping website....

WWW, I will transfer my balance in no time if they keep this up. 21.9% is a joke!!

still

Seems that the reason for the rate rise is that egg have been bought out by Citibank, and they want to raise everybody's interest rates - there was a useful post on the thisismoney chat room. may be interesting

Lizzer · 08/03/2007 22:33

Helenn, thanks so much for that link, it explains a lot. I was about to spend 15 quid on getting my credit report cos that's what they suggested in my email i've just got back from them. As if that's necessary?! Now I see its all a scam cos citibank have just bought egg out. Time to get out methinks, anyone know a good 0% transfer?

See huskygirl, its just most people they've targetted are those they thought they could get away with, ie those of us who couldn't pay our big balances off in one go, nevermind if we've behaved badly in the past or not.... and therefore they make the most money
Feeling a little less angry now, just sad and tired of the world and its filthy ways....

However, I'm gonna write and demand better things ahead........um, tomorrow though.....tired now...... .

Oh gosh. Just read that thread. Not good. I will try and transfer my balance to another.
Thats why i got egg in the 1st place so i could transfer my hsbc visa balance to it nut it wouldn't let me do it all only 1/3rd. Which wasn't much.
I will start looking.
