Without boring you all to tears... i'm cutting a very long story short!!
Today i was told that i had a CCJ, which i knew nothing about!
It was apparently issued to me in December 2005 and today was the first i knew about it. Our new estate agents were carrying out credit checks and as i'd written on the application that i didn't have any CCJ's.. they rang me to tell me i did!

So... i've been in contact with the Registry Trust all afternoon. I rang them and then emailed them... and.... i've just been told that nothing is showing under my name!

I did move house 10 months before the CCJ was issued, but would the search have been carried out under my current address? And if i'd recieved it at my previous address, does this mean i have a CCJ but it hasn't shown because i didn't give my old address?? Or, would the search have been made under my name and it would have shown up regardless??

Blimey sorry...that does all sound rather confusing but i'm totally crap in these situations.

Any help or advice would be so much appreciated... ta x

YOu can contact equifax (or the other agency - check wit your estate agent which one they used) and find out who the ccj was issued by

What does the CCJ relate to? Do you remember the debt? You can have them removed if they are wrong. Didn't you have to give your old address if you'd lived in your new one less than three years? You can get hold of you credit file by going to www.joincreditexpert.com/freecreditreportint/?sc=410006&bcd=interactivehomepage1

You can see it for free online for 30 days (but don't forget to cancel your membership or you'll be charged.

By post your credit file costs £2.

Prufrock...the agency won't/can't tell me who they checked with!

nh101... as far as i was aware, i didn't have any outsetanding debt. I gave the agents all my previous addresses but when they rang me to tell me about the CCJ, the only info they had was the amount (£317) and the date of December 2005.

There are 3 credit reference agencies, Equifax, Experian and Callcredit. You can apply to each to view a copy of the report they hold on you. If it contains information which is untrue (can often happen if someone with a CCJ used to live at your property or now lives in your old house), you can apply to have it corrected.

If you get a copy from each (cost £2 and can be done online provided you have a credit/debit card), you can show it to your estate agent to prove you don't have a CCJ.
