Dismissed from work

Hello just after advice please,been at my job for just over two years,never made a mistake. Then my dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer at the start of the year,that's stressful enough but I live over 500 miles from him so a bit more stressful,then a relationship breakdown so my head was all over the place. Anyway I've made a few mistakes at work they've been through the correct procedures but they dismissed me today. What do I do where do I go for advice,I've been reading I might not get any benefits cos I've been sacked please can someone tell me what to do thank you.

You usually have to wait 13 weeks before you're eligible for JSA I'm afraid, being dismissed and resigning are reasons within your own hands.

Not necessarily. Apply anyway. Dh was dismissed for health related reasons (too many sick days) and qualified for JSA without a delay.

I was dismissed from work due to ill health, because of this I was advised to apply for esa I think it's called.Maybe if your stressed by what's going on at home you should have a look, on the bright side dd was escorted out of her job after a customer complained, best thing ever. Hope everything turns out ok for you.

Is it a decent company? Did they have support on offer? Did they give you warnings and stuff? Was the dismissal fair? It's difficult to advise as I work for the NHS and always have done so I have union if I need it and occupational health if it came to it.

It may be worth an appointment with Citizens Advice Bureau for some advice?

I know it's no consolation and not really the point but if you're willing to do anything there's always jobs out there - care work, cleaning etc.

Being dismissed or leaving a job voluntarily is NOT an automatic 13 week sanction.
Each claim is considered on a case by case basis.
You are able to give your side, the employer (if they respond to the letter) gives theirs. Don't rush your statement, it's important you include all relevant info.
I'd get in touch with acas but do make a claim to JSA/UC (if you're fit for work) on line today.

The correct procedure was followed,it's been very quiet there and I get the feeling it was just the excuse they needed,like I said was there over two years and no mistakes or complaints. I'm not excusing my mistakes I made them,was just overwhelmed by stuff going on in my personal life. I'm going to see what the Job centre say tomorrow. It seems to have happened very quickly if your dad was diagnosed this year and you were let go on 23rd Jan. I would definitely check with ACAS.

Did you get all the written and verbal warnings? It sounds to me as if you should have been off sick if all that was going on in your life. Or certainly they could have cut you a bit of slack.

I think they have behaved appallingly considering your track record. Definitely get in touch with ACAS. It seeems to be an unfair dismissal to me.

Op I work in HR and agree that this semi very quick.
When did the mistakes start? HAve you had a written and a final written warning or did the mistakes get treated as a gross misconduct?
