Possible to avoid emergency tax on bonus?

Every year DH gets emergency taxed on his bonus and we end up getting a rebate once HMRC have counted up their pennies (and pounds). Is it possible to notify HMRC that the bonus will only be for that paycheque and not ongoing for the rest of the tax year as they seem to assume?

If so, have we left it too late? (bonus paid in about 3-4 weeks time)
