I have discoverd a derlict farm on the edge of the village, I want to find out who owns it or the land. Where do I start, I guess it will be the local council but just wanted to know excactly where to start so I don't have to phone the dafties on the council switchboard that put you on hold for a couple of days. Scotland BTW if that is different, probably is.

Land Registry?

Parish council?

I would have said Land Registry too.

Or you could ask around amongst the neighbours who would more than likely know whats going on.

Land registry, it costs around £9 to find out who owns title deeds. Not sure if you can do it as a lay person or if it needs to be done through a conveyancer though.

Thanks I found the Scottish land registry site and it seems I will have to pay a fee, I'm not really in the position to buy it so £10 is a bit much for just being nosy .
