Adding new child to tax credit claim

Can I add my new baby to my claim before I register her and do child benefit? I'm sure I did with my second but can't remember now. Thanks

I think you have to send the birth certificate so you can ring tax credits to notify them of the change but I don't think anything will change until after baby's birth had been registered.

You can add new child to tax credits without birth certificate online
