WHERE CAN I FIND (PREFERABLY FREE) CREDIT RATING ADVICE? ...

for some reason experian.com cannot verify us by the details we put in on their website, we've tried a few times, and think this may be connected to the fact we cannot get credit, (some problem in the system with our details??) however its just an online service and we cant talk to anyone over the phone through them to find out what the problem is!!

anyone else we can phone and discuss it with as we cannot get any credit cards nothing - we have no history of credit and everyone seems to turn us down flat (even argos!)

but we dont know why?

try garlik.com - they will do you a free basic credit rating report as part of their launch offer - this might thow up where the issue lies. hth

How do you mean, you can't talk to them over the phone? Do they say they can't help?

kittylette · 09/02/2007 10:59

I do hate these companies which hide behind their website. There's the standard info you have to fill in on their main pages but there's also a rather hidden (I thought) "contact us" page where you could submit a more difficult enquiry. It does say they can't deal with specific personal credit enquiries on this form but I'd use it to say "so, how do I get in touch with you with a more complicated enquiry". mention the data protection act, it's their job to let you have any info they have on you. try this?

Martin Lewis's website here is good for all this sort of advice.

Kitty, I signed uo to experian a few months ago, also re not getting a credit card. They do have a number as I rang them. This is the page with the number on.

www.joincreditexpert.com/homepage/contact.asp?hold=True

If not you can send off £2 per person and ask for a written report.

If you do manage to sign up make sure you cancel it after the first month or it'll cost you £5.99/month! I only signed myself up first as all mine and dh's stuff is joint so figured only one of us needed to sign up to show why a rating wasn't good.

BTW my credit rating was very good and think I got refused for credit card as we'd just moved(not on electoral(sp?) role) and the credit card company had the wrong address, said flat 12 instead of house 12. But I was furious when we were declined, never missed a payment for anything so knew we couldn't have a bad rating.
