Quick question on VAT charging please...

When I pay an invoice for something I am sending off for by post, am I charged VAT on the handling and packaging?

I want to send a cheque off for something and they haven't totalled up the invoice so I need to work it out myself.

Most of my invoices have the P&P added on after the VAT has been added. I find This absolutely brilliant when trying to work through my invoices.

I'm fairly sure that when I've ordered from Spirit of Nature, who do a really detailed VAT breakdown on their invoices, that they do not put VAT on the p&p.

Oh, now I've just found one that has added VAT after the P&P - can you ring the people and ask?

VAT is chargeable on post and packing (assuming the company is VAT registered), but they can quote you the post and packing charge either inc or ex VAT, so you really will need to ring them and check which they have done. If you can't ring them then I would assume that the figure quoted includes VAT already. If that is wrong then they should be able to send you a VAT only invoice.
