I posted earlier in the month about my brother and how his girlfriend had walked out on him and their baby.

My brother is in the process of getting the flat put into his name, applying for child benefit, child tax credits etc But he has no money. He's unable to work at the moment because he has nobody to look after the baby. He can't get the baby into a nursery and go back to work until he's got everything sorted out re child benefit etc and it's all taking ages to come through.

So he has no money, and I mean no money at all. tonight I gave him money to buy gas and electric. He's applied for Income support to see him through but they won't give him that until he's got the child beneift number so they're giving him job seekers allowance instead which will be a paltry amount when it eventually comes through and not enough for him to survive on.

He knows this is only temporary until all the forms come back and payments start being made but is there anywhere else he can get money from to tide him over in the mean time? Or does he just have to wait for the income support to come through?

thanks

I believe you can apply for a crisis loan. Sorry don't know much more than that. Hope someone comes along soon who knows more.

Blonde's right, he needs to talk to the benefits office (called jobcentre plus now, or something). Sorry don't have more details.

He might be able to get some emergency cash from Social Services. It sounds like a horrible situation for him and I really sympathise.

If benefits office aren't helpful, try these guys here who might be able to talk him through the system.
