Independent financial advisor? See a couple, it's free and gets you off to a good start at least.
Also, perhaps moneysupermarket.com

Don't do Northern Rock - they're hopeless administratively - and have just mislaid 40k from our mortgage account...oh the hours of wasted phone calls...one disaster after another. I have absolutely no idea why they are so bad...

Get advice from an Independant Financial Adviser and DO NOT pay a fee as they will receive a fee from the mortgage company and life insurance company if you take out life cover.
Google IFA and you will be able to find one locally and you will be able to talk to them over the phone etc.
Other than that what do you want to know?
