I scraped a car bumper whilst reversing. Man said he had ?80 quote. Gave him a cheque, but he hasn't had car fixed. He agreed that he would give us a copy of receipt. Money has come out and car still not fixed. What should we do next?

you should have asked him for details of the garage he was using and paid them direct, there is not actually a lot you can do, if he has chosen not to get his car repaired.

Ah. Tricky this one. Let me ask DH, he's in insurance. He might know.

Nothing you can do as far as I know - this is why you should go through the insurance. Next time - get him to give you a quote on headed paper (from the garage) and pay the garage directly.

I wouldnt do anything.... just think yourself lucky that you havnt lost your no claims!

the man would have been well within his rights to insist it goes through insurance... but he didnt... so the 2 of you can forget about it!

weather he fixes it now or later is up to *him( IMO... you caused the damage... and now you have paid for it to be fixed... so your consionse is clear..

even if he doesnt fox it for a while (and thats his perogative* its still damage that he will either a) have tto fix in the futre or b) have a car worth a little less when he comes to sell it!

2Pink - Have spoken to DH. He said not to worry about it. If you are concerned that he may now go through the insurance, do not panic either as if you give them your cheque stub number, they will be able to obtain a copy of the original cheque from the bank to prove you did pay it. In any case, if you did not give him your insurance details, then this won't happen.

Legally there isn't anything you can do about him not having the car fixed.

Next time, if you don't want to go through the insurance, agree to pay the garage direct. Or simply let the insurance deal with it. If you have a no claims protection, your premium won't be affected.

Bit long-winded, but I hope this helps!!
