I'm finally going to switch my energy suppliers - anything to look out for?

Finally, got the energy to swap gas and probably electricity too. Will look at the price comparision sites but is there anywhere else I need to check to see the reputation of the firms I'm swapping to?

Also, I have a feeling I have read on MN about MNers who have swapped telephone (?) suppliers and then when they wanted to swap again, the second company kept billing them? Anyone heard of any problems like that over the energy suppliers? If I swap and make a mistake, can I swap again quite easily?

Any particular recommendations of companies and would you recommend getting a gas/electricity deal or keeping them separate?

Grateful for advice, I feel very nervous about doing this!

My friend had unbelievable problems for well over a year with powergen.... it took her over 80 phone calls and lots of home visits (and a HUGE phone bill) TO get it sorted

Thank you. They are now crossed off my list . Anyone else had experiences good or bad? I was thinking maybe npower or southern & scottish (think they are tied together).

Have a look here at moneysavingexpert for who can give you the best deal - and how you can maybe get cashback or a bottle of champagne thrown in!

I've been with Powergen for years and never had a problem. But we need to switch also - because we've been with them for years - and since they owe us money, I'm loathe to swap until I can get it back. However a mum at school works there so perhaps if I have probs I can get her to help. Now all I need is someone who works at British Gas (who also owe us money....)
