Still going strong here at bot watch HQ on MN!

Previous thread here

Botwatch on Wordpress and on Facebook

Timeless Vie on Wordpress and on Facebook

Eyespeying's Blog aka #manhun, even if he's been banned by MNHQ

Hommetepreneur on Facebook

NEW Link to the Daily Mail article of 20 May 2016 regarding an ex-bot's treatment at the hands of her 'spline' at Forever Living UK

NEW Link to NastashaBarnbotShingles' refutation of the above.

We have our own regularly returning bots to tell us how bullying and hateful we are.

Glossary:

Bots: our affectionate name for victims of the MLM racket

MLM: Multi-level Marketing schemes - essentially pyramid schemes that are just legal because you sell a product. Reliant upon constant recruitment despite there not being enough people in the world to go beyond about 12 levels if everyone recruited 6.

Downline/Upline: the people you recruited and those who recruited you (going up and down the pyramid inverted funnel)

Timeless Vie: Parody of MLM schemes (though you might spot one in particular) that also carries out fearless investigative work

Hommetrepreneur: also excellent parody site focussing on the menz

BotWatch: Rather more serious, keeps an eye on what the Bots are claiming next, particularly in reference to health and income claims. Also fearless.

Inverted Funnel: Timeless Vie is NOT a pyramid - it's an inverted Funnel, OK?

Eyes: Our former member Eyespying who knows LOTS about MLM schemes. He's still our very own #manhun.

Twunk (AKA ForeverYazoonique) has a bottle of Banana Yazoo in her fridge. She's still too afraid to drink it. Yahoo is important as seems to be the primary retail product for Life Tree World.

Hello all!
After a loooong time lurking on these threads, I promised myself not to join until I was finished with uni for the year. Now I am, so here I am!
Ex-bot here - Timeless Vie have shared my story #famous. Looking forward to finally being able to get stuck in! Grin x

Well done for speaking out!

Thanks Yazoo and Cozie! Star
Thank you, I felt it had to be done really - if it stops just one person falling for these schemes then I consider it a job well done (Y) x

cozietoesie · 03/06/2016 22:04

It was steadfast and brave nonetheless. Well done. Smile

BSintolerant · 03/06/2016 23:58

Eau - it's a pleasure to be in your fragrant company. Welcome!

Kudos for speaking out and for encouraging more ex-bots to reveal what really goes on behind the scenes in these awful network marketing schemes.

EauDeParslaii · 04/06/2016 00:07

Why thank you BS!

I have been a part of 3 MLMs (thinking that each was better than the last, this time it'll work, etc.) and it's scary how even though the companies are different and the products are different, it's the same scripts, same tactics, same thought processes, same emphasis on recruitment and same obsession with mindset and Eric Whhoaaarrr. Hmm x

cozietoesie · 04/06/2016 00:41

Oh Yes. Why change a 'winning formula'? Smile

BSintolerant · 04/06/2016 00:41

Monday's bot is in your face;
Tuesday's bot is a disgrace;
Wednesday's bot is forever fibbing:
Thursday's bot rents the shed where she's living;
Friday's bot is full of juice plus:
Saturday's bot has an arse like a bus;
And the bot who drinks Yazoo on the sabbath day was found dead in a large pool of milk in an industrial estate in Manchester. The woman, who was surrounded by empty bottles of this highly dangerous substance, is thought to have taken an overdose. A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said there were no suspicious circumstances, and said tragedies like this can be avoided by drinking aloe juice prior to consuming large quantities of Yazoo. The officer in question sustained a bruised ego when our reporter refused to join her in an amazing business opportunity (her team is known as The Thin Green Line Copper Plated Ring Huns) and ordered our reporter to sign the Piss Taker's Register along with 99 others on her Pigeon Chicken List. Our reporter has since gone into hiding for her own safety.

Hhahaha Grin BS!

Welcome Eau, when you got involved in another MLM after you 'failed' the previous one Hmm, were you attracted to the lovely, friendly, cuddly love-bombing that you received first? What is it that persuades people to try and try MLM, even though the business model doesn't work for the vast majority? Is it that you think you failed (because you didn't work hard enough etc)?

And Eau, what finally helped you to see the reality, and what advice would you give to others who were in your position?

EauDeParslaii · 04/06/2016 12:41

BS, that is brilliant!! Love it :L

Hi stopfaffing, with regards to the first question, it was a new MLM coming to the UK at the time, with the allure of "getting in at the top" so to speak. I was disenchanted with the previous MLM due to the saturation of reps, so I thought that this may be a chance to get in there first and make an impact. I guess people try and try them as they keep thinking 'maybe this time will be different' 'maybe it was the products last time' etc etc. Or they could even be blaming themselves for it, like we have heard countless times of ex-bots being told they failed because they didn't put the work in Hmm
Some did well in my next MLM (especially those that had heard the news before us so managed to get massive teams behind them ready for launch) and to be fair I didn't do too badly when the market first opened. It did indeed have the American positive cheerleader-y atmosphere to it though!

I know why 'I' failed - saturation of the market and the price of the products coupled with the fact that I am too honest for my own good - if somebody could get a better quality product on the high street, I would be recommending they got that over the products Grin

What helped me to see through was the fact that there was such pressure to push the products at every opportunity (people soon stop talking to you when they realise that every time you talk you will be plugging the product/business somehow); any negativity towards the business was a result of being ignorant and 'a hater' (one MLM upline always told us to block these people, as if they didn't support you they were not true friends); and I just never felt like I could engage with the 'team' mentality, it made me cringe!

With regards to advice, I would say it is important for anybody to do their research first; sadly it becomes difficult as any negative reviews will be quickly dismissed by the potential upline as being a hater or something (as above). I really wish TV and Botwatch were around when I first forayed into MLM, it would have given me the confidence to get out of there a hell of a lot quicker! Grin x

cozietoesie · 04/06/2016 13:02

But you did manage to get out. Smile

Much respect to you for that. And also for telling your story.

stopfaffing · 04/06/2016 13:04

Thanks, eau, I think that these companies are very well versed in manipulating prospective and new reps, once they snare you all they need is your 'reason why' and they can tailor the necessary love bombing/manipulation/hot button words and phrases to you. Before you know it, you're sucked in and bombarded with insidious reprogramming techniques to soften you up and get you 'seeing the light', as it were. Glad you got out Smile.

imfinallyfree · 04/06/2016 13:29

Been watching these threads for a few weeks now. Thank you. I thought it was just me that thought MLM was wrong, unfortunately I only started thinking that after joining one of them.
Last night after a few weeks of thinking. I took the jump and walked away. Still working out how to tell my 'up line' as she is a old school friend. But here goes.

Hoppinggreen · 04/06/2016 13:34

Well my FL bot is plumbing new depths.
She is promoting a certain product to " support the homeless". During June profits go to the homeless charity apparently but my cynical side is thinking that even if she donates the " profit" she makes it still boosts her CC's or whatever they do. Plus it's a low value product so the Homless won't be getting much even if she sells a shed load of it
Am I right or just a heartless meanie?

darceybussell · 04/06/2016 13:36

Welcome free, glad to have you join us. Good luck with speaking to your upline, I hope it goes ok.

cozietoesie · 04/06/2016 13:38

Welcome, free. Smile

Glad the threads have helped you.

cozietoesie · 04/06/2016 13:40

There seems to be a fair bit of 'charity promotion' going on in various MLMs, Hopping.

I guess it's a good 'hook'. Wink

Tupperwarelid · 04/06/2016 13:41

Hopping my bot has done the same, set herself a target of selling 50 of a certain product in a month with the profit going to charity. Must be a new way of getting those cc's.

Also noticed today is #Successday. Lots of people giving up their weekends and travelling to Birmingham

cozietoesie · 04/06/2016 13:49

It would be quite a good strategy when you think of it. Make people feel bad because you're 'working flat out' for 'charitable purposes' and persuade them to buy at the same time. And you can trumpet it on your FB for the longest time. Smile

NorbertDentressangle · 04/06/2016 14:04

Yes indeed, my bot is spending her wedding anniversary at the Success Day!! Last night she had some of her team stay over at her house after a meal/drinks and tomorrow night will no doubt be Sunday training in PJs.

Bet her "hubby" is thrilled to bits about where he comes in her list of priorities #foreverrulesmylife #forgetyourfamily #dumpthekidsonhubby

kamchatka23 · 04/06/2016 14:51

It's quite sickening to see that certain bots are willing to jump on the death of Muhammad Ali in order to big themselves up and publicise their 'business'. FFS.

cozietoesie · 04/06/2016 15:01

It's a common business ploy to jump on 'events' of whatever sort - deaths and tragedies included. To be deplored but, sadly, not limited to MLM adherents.

cozietoesie · 04/06/2016 17:24

I'm just musing on the possible effect on MLM activity of the growth in blockchain/the DAO. I do hope that other minds are considering this also? (My own brain is fraying at the edges with the task. Grin)
