I find it sad when people say 'I'll do as much or as little as I want'

No you won't. That's the point. You are either all in or all out. Up line bots are not interested in you unless you are living and breathing the mlm. Trust me, I was one of them. It's taught down that unless people are giving it their all then they won't receive support.
Also the training from your laptop? Yes you will be, every second, of every day, including Saturday and Sunday. Making presentations, giving them, helping other teams on theirs, doing extra ones, one off ones, weekly rolling ones, plannings, I could go on.
If you are prepared to alienate all of your family and friends, lose all sense of who you are as a person then by all means, sign up.

Twunk · 01/05/2016 14:35

Yes tojoin

They are scams
Pyramid schemes
Fraudulent

Do you think there is something good about scams? A side we're not covering? Maybe people like being scammed?

LifeTreeWorld · 01/05/2016 14:38

Hey all - I was posting about LTW a couple of weeks ago and promised to keep anyone interested updated on my progress.

I stopped reading for a while because I found the thread quite draining tbh - I know that people on it obviously aren't fans of MLM's but there was only so much I could take! And needed to step away for a bit.

Anyhow, my update - i'm, what...a little under a month into LTW. I can't find my old posts so can't remember exactly where I was when I posted before - but I now have 4 team members with another 4 due to join LTW next week. And quite a few others considering it or saying they'll join when they have proof of my earnings - which is fair enough. That's more than the amount I need for level 1 bonus so should be achieving my £200 bonus for May.

So, I expect that by the end of this month i'll be breaking even so far:

£35 to join
£165 on shopping in April
£165 on shopping in May (yet to do)
Total out: £365
Total in: £200 cash (yet to receive, but fully expected - and I will update again for anyone interested when it's actually received). And two hampers worth of shopping - which whilst I appreciate isn't the value you'd get by buying in Lidl, are definitely worth £165 between the two iyswim. And not a Yazoo in sight Grin

Overall, it's gone slower that I expected which I admit. But i'm still on board with it and we'll see.

Tojoinornottojoin · 01/05/2016 14:40

I have read the thread and think that it's just a handful of people who are having issues so come on here toccata moan. if they were all that bad why are people still getting involved, staying involved and making a living from it - I think I misunderstood what this discussion was all about. I expected it to be a sensible debate about the pros and cons of joint an MLM but the more I read back the more I realise I've probably wandered it to a bit of Whitch hunt. I'm going to the read some of the pages just to make sure I've not gotten my wires crossed. But from what I can see if I tried to promote my products on here I'd be shot at dawn,

throwingpebbles · 01/05/2016 14:42

Woo "breaking even" ...but how much of that stuff would you have normally bought ltw ??? And how will you feel if those you have recruited never even manage to "break even" (ie they make a loss)

NorbertDentressangle · 01/05/2016 14:42

So effectively you are right and anyone else who believes these companies can offer an income/alternative way of life are wrong and have no place on this discussion ?

Tojoin - posters on here are clearly saying that it's your decision and are pointing you in the direction of articles, studies etc that give hard facts and figures and examples of people's experiences that will balance out what MLMs tell you.

Nobody here wants to see you (or anyone else) go through what they've seen or heard of others going through. Read what ex-MLM posters on this very thread have said about their experiences - would you encourage anyone to put themselves forward for that sort of treatment and experience?

Despite this nobody can stop you joining, they can only help you make an informed choice. However the door is being left open for you to come back and discuss your experience if you do sign up.

Tojoinornottojoin · 01/05/2016 14:45

Why is it a scam ? It's only a scam if you don't understand what you are getting into - and I'm a strong willed person I will only do why suits me and why on earth would I set about alienating my friends and family ?? my family have always been very supportive in everything I've done whatever hobby or pastime I've chosen to take up. Tropic will not be a job it's will be a bit of fun and an opportunity to meet new people and form new friendships. What's so wrong with that.

Delurker2016 · 01/05/2016 14:45

It's a handful of people who have had the courage to speak up.
I think maybe you are in the wrong place. Some of us on here have had our lives torn apart by MLMs.

It is a sensible debate, you are lucky to be given a truthful insight, one you won't get from someone trying to recruit you. Just remember that the people on here have nothing to gain from you, we have no invested interest, so we will only ever tell the truth.
Make your own decision, you wanted our opinions and we gave them.

Tojoinornottojoin · 01/05/2016 14:49

Seems from that last post I've been given my marching orders, i suppose I'll come back and cry on you're shoulders when it all goes wrong and brace myself for the 'I told you so's' cheerio for now - anyone want a contouring kit ??

Tojoinornottojoin · 01/05/2016 14:54

Before I go, having the courage to speak up ?? every single person on here is anonymous so how does that work. Having the courage to speak up against ones oppressor does not include hiding behind a user name, just saying 😉

GreaseIsNotTheWord · 01/05/2016 14:55

A fair bit throwing pebbles - off the top of my head -Fairy, Colgate, Toilet Roll, bleach, Coffee, tinned tomatoes, shampoo, bin bags, few different cereals, pasta, beans, oil, squash, kit kats. I'm a bit too stocked up on condiments as I have tomato sauce, mint sauce, a couple of jams - but they're still stuff I buy, just not usually as regularly! There are also a couple of things that are definitely going to the foodbank - a tin of lentils (I HATE lentils), and tinned spaghetti, which we won't use. Not much though.

There were a few make up bits in my hamper too which was a bit random and I wasn't really that hopeful for... but am actually quite impressed with them - a couple of nail varnishes, a lipgloss and a couple of lipsticks. The nail varnishes are excellent quality, lip gloss too. One of the lipsticks is great, the other is not my colour so have gifted that.

Overall I was quite happy though.

DoTheMLMHustle · 01/05/2016 14:56

ToJoin you must make your own mind up, if you dismiss what kind people have been willing to share with their actual experience, then we may well say 'we told you so', cod we did. These threads aren't here to debate the pro's and con's. There are now 20 threads with people sharing how their lives were destroyed.

But if you still fancy it, knock yourself out Grin

BSintolerant · 01/05/2016 14:56

When shall we handful meet again
To moan about vile MLM pain?

When the hurlyburly's done
When the battle's lost and won.

...

Then all the Devils in hell unfurled,
their shopping lists with Life Tree World:

Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg, and howlet's wing,--
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.

If that is not too foul for you - Fie! Wash it down with cold Yazoo.

Wink
GreaseIsNotTheWord · 01/05/2016 14:56

Bugger, bugger, bugger.

I was determined to not have another name-change fail. Well, that ship has sailed again!

RaeSkywalker · 01/05/2016 14:57

Tojoin, you haven't been giving your marching orders at all! You know what we think about MLMs, but you've been told that you are more than welcome to post here. I don't think it's the right place to promote your products though as you suggest up thread.

For the record, I'm not here because I'm "having issues" or "have a moan". I am not currently and have never been part of an MLM. I've done a lot of reading up about these organisations and feel very strongly that an opposition to MLM rhetoric is needed. These threads provide this.

I also think you will see that people who have left (or indeed are still in MLMs) have been offered support on these threads.

As for your question about why people continue to join MLMs- the lifestyle tags they promise is very alluring. It is not a reality for 99%+ of people that join through, which is why the turnover rate in MLMS is so high.

I urge you to read the resources on the Timeless Vie website for more information.

Nolongerconfused · 01/05/2016 15:01

Exactly - some can't actually speak up in real life for fear of the repercussions (that is what you are getting into).

And if i want a contour kit I will go to the high street and buy one....I suspect this is a phrase you may get used to hearing.

Finally - your new upline won't appreciate you posting in the thread. So you likely won't be able to spend time here anyway. Tell them about it and watch the horror on their face that people dare speak out against them. They are afraid of people seeing this thread and the accompanying blogs.

DoTheMLMHustle · 01/05/2016 15:03

Grin BS the bot Baird

LTW /Grease
Do you think you could have got all that shopping for less elsewhere?
What will you buy each month, if you have enough store cupboard items?

Nolongerconfused · 01/05/2016 15:10

Do you think it's sustainable to keep buying this amount and getting 4 others to do this every month?

Tojoinornottojoin · 01/05/2016 15:21

I really must go, got to get ready to meet my what is it you call them 'upline' . I don't understand the secrecy if something has not worked out for you just leave and move on. No one is being held at gun point to continue with something they are not suceeding at surely? I assume we are all adults with a mind of our own. I seriously believed that I would get a 2 sided point of view from this group but reading just a few pages back some poor person was properly slated and wiped the floor with when they dared suggest the benifits of MLM I believe said person was called a bore and a troll - now what's constructive about that ? - are you sure you don't want a contouring kit 😉

Nolongerconfused · 01/05/2016 15:24

You won't get anyone here giving you the benefits of joining a MLM....because there aren't any.

darceybussell · 01/05/2016 15:24

The title of the thread says discussion of MLMs as scams and rackets, so it's odd that you thought it would be a 2 sided discussion.

Tojoinornottojoin · 01/05/2016 15:26

Is that because you're not allowed ???

Nolongerconfused · 01/05/2016 15:26

The people here have either been in an MLM and escaped or they have seen friends and family be sucked into them and they are worried about them.

You won't have to look far to find a "friend" that will sell the MLM scam to you.

Best of luck you'll need it!

Tojoinornottojoin · 01/05/2016 15:33

Ah flipping eck, never realised - trudges off to find another page with a debate and not just somewhere to moan. Ta ta for now got a Bot to meet and all that, it's been inciteful. Will let you all know when in a fully fledged Tropicbot may be you could choose me a nick name for when I get back 👍🏻👍🏻

prettyusefulsometimes · 01/05/2016 15:39

Tojoin - you've had some excellent advice over the last few pages; you would have had to wade through kergillions of internetness to find such clear-eyed opinion. We would like you to meander other avenues to find friendship and fun, but I interpret your posts as though you had already made up your mind to join Tropic? I would love to read any updates you could contribute to future threads - and there will be many more, despite attempts to derail Grin

I would have no problem revealing my "secret identity" - I have nothing to hide - but I think it goes against Mumsnet guidelines??
