camels Sad
it seems to be a real focus for MLMs out there at the moment

tojoin I confess I haven't looked into tropic much but I wouldn't see an Alan Sugar endorsement as much of a reassurance

Twunk · 01/05/2016 13:29

It's like a cancer - all these MLMs. Seriously there are too many to mention individually but what we say about one applies to them all.

All will have the big money-makers trumpeted by the company.

All will have the same churn rate.

All will lose you money, friends and self-esteem.

All will take up so much of your time you won't be able to think straight.

Templespa doesn't feature in the uk much Camels, at least I've not noticed them. What are they flogging?

Tojoinornottojoin · 01/05/2016 13:30

Yes, yes and yes - I already work at a normal job want something to do at night time whilst the hubby is at work and the kids are in bed. I'm not naive as to think it's going to make me millions I've also looked into FL and if I'm honest I prefer their range of products (i have brought and drank their gel) over tropic but was thinking id go for the latter because they are not a well publicised so would probably get a better response from people I mean every one likes a good eyebrow and contouring kit.

HopefulHamster · 01/05/2016 13:30

No one know my bot Qs then? She took her whole fam to SA btw, grandparents too. Her feed is like an advert full of glowing reviews. The obvious downside to my eye is that there is nothing else on it except FL. Like that's her whole life.

Twunk · 01/05/2016 13:30

Lord Sugar's endorsement is hardly a clincher.

cozietoesie · 01/05/2016 13:31

throwing

I guess you would be looking into the financial background of the company and all. I couldn't really stop you doing that I suppose.

NorbertDentressangle · 01/05/2016 13:33

It's not just the 'get rich quick' or the 'earn - few hundred extra a month fitting it round your kids' lies, it's also the frankly bonkers 'willable income' that upsets me.
One of my bots has 3 small children and has told me that one of the reasons she's doing FL is to provide them with financial security if anything should happen to her. So although she's not raking it in yet (she admits) she thinks there is a golden future ahead if she just works for it
:-((

A local bot who has #ditchedtheboss and is doing the full-on "fake it til you make it" etc signed up a fellow parent from the school. A fellow parent who has cancer, a fellow parent who nearly died from this cancer a few years ago and who, if they are lucky, has a few years left (they are very open about their illness so there's no chance that the bot would not have known)

That parent now believes that FL is going to provide a secure future for their children when they die.

How can that bot live with herself for recruiting someone so vulnerable and giving them false hope? How can they stoop so fucking low?

Tojoinornottojoin · 01/05/2016 13:34

Well he seems to have made some very savvy business decisions in his past so I guessed this one was a no brainier really - he must know what he's talking about to be where he is today surely ?

CheekySmile · 01/05/2016 13:34

I think it's important to remember that the product of each MLM is relatively unimportant. They could be selling the most amazing wampum that everyone desires, but when compared to a traditionally retailed equivalent, the markup on it makes repeat purchasing by your customers hard to justify. And the markup has to be high in order for everyone further up the pyramid (who is eligible) to take their slice.
And don't forget the maths! In order for the elite few to reach the pointy part of the pyramid, there HAS to be a horrendously large number of people in the Toblerone below who were sold the dream and will NEVER achieve it.
The same deal for each MLM.

Twunk · 01/05/2016 13:34

Yes Hopeful we understand this is a bonus. Forever says it has 9.5m distributors - there were 944 at the "global rally" - most got cheques under 15K. You do the maths

Twunk · 01/05/2016 13:35

Sorry under $15k

Twunk · 01/05/2016 13:37

I would agree owning an MLM is extremely savvy - especially if you are the type who has elastic morals

cozietoesie · 01/05/2016 13:37

You're right, Cheeky. Wampum is just - wampum. Grin All you need is a sufficiently plausible 'bait' to put on the MLM 'hook'.

NorbertDentressangle · 01/05/2016 13:39

sorry, first paragraph of my post should have been in bold as I was quoting a previous post that made me think of the situation that I know of

Twunk · 01/05/2016 13:39

In fact one of our favourite Bots didn't do well at all. And going by the explanations on how you get to go to the "Global Rally" much must have been spent (in money, blood, sweat and tears) for what amounted to an average month's wages.

Tojoinornottojoin · 01/05/2016 13:40

I don't understand the term 'wampum' but then again I don't get the cheese and parslai posts either - do I need to read further back to know what you are referring to ? I must admit some of the comments on this thread got me slightly confused. im just after constructive advice. As one would say a 2 sided debate on the rights and wrongs on joining a MLM (if that's what Tropic is).

Twunk · 01/05/2016 13:40

Norbert
What the actual fuck?

That disgusts me.

CheekySmile · 01/05/2016 13:41

Wampum = whatever is being sol

Twunk · 01/05/2016 13:41

There is only one side tojoin

Don't join is our advice.

You will lose time, money and quite possibly peace of mind.

prettyusefulsometimes · 01/05/2016 13:42

Tojoin - Donald Trump had his own MLM. Does that legitimise the "business" any more for you?

There are hundreds of MLMs. They all offer the FALSE EXPECTATION OF FUTURE REWARD.

The best thing to do is ask an established Tropic recruit for their average income, their average expenditure and average hours worked just as you would when investigating buying into any business. You will never get the stone cold facts from the official literature and Googling often brings up false positives!!

CheekySmile · 01/05/2016 13:42

Gah sold

Tojoinornottojoin · 01/05/2016 13:42

What's a 'bot' ???

Twunk · 01/05/2016 13:46

A Bot is someone who is part of an MLM. It comes from Robot and was originally used for Amway adherents - who were called Ambots

NorbertDentressangle · 01/05/2016 13:46

I know Twunk.

I've put off posting about it before because I was worried it might be too identifying but, do you know what, I think it needed to be posted on these threads because it truly does illustrate how there is nobody who is safe from being recruited and that there is no such thing as a bot with morals.

They will stop at nothing.

Twunk · 01/05/2016 13:48

Maybe the recruiting Bot believes it herself? There's so much brainwashing...I think critical thinking is the first thing to go.

It's a fucking scandal though Norbert - going on right under everyone's noses.
