Another part of the problem might be that those people whose lives are touched by uncertainty etc might also have family and friends/acquaintances who while themselves not being interested in MLM activity, might still feel obligations to the person who has been inculcated. Buying wampum from them might be seen by the others as eg 'helping out' a family member but it is also likely to give that new adherent an unrealistically rosy picture - at the beginning - of their new endeavour.

cozietoesie · 01/05/2016 11:55

There you go, Seen.

Twunk · 01/05/2016 12:24

And just another point, Mumsnet has a long and venerable tradition of swearing.

So bots can FORTTFSOFAWYGTFOSM

hashtagwinning · 01/05/2016 12:27

I have posted before, I only ever get one reply because I'm asking about another mlm mostly and was curious about the video as couldn't find it. Mainly here to read as the other mlm was pricking my ears lately and found myself listening to success calls and almost messaged to join a team I had rejected years ago after the recent Vegas trip. Thankfully the FL eruption over last thread woke me up and the former members telling their stories about the facade of it all. Sorry if my delurking came across wrong.

Twunk · 01/05/2016 12:27

Hmmmm not sure there aren't a couple of errant letters in that.

Twunk · 01/05/2016 12:29

Hello Hashtag! Glad to hear we could be of service Smile

Twunk · 01/05/2016 12:29

Sorry things are moving fast. Which MLM? Arbonne?

Melaw21 · 01/05/2016 12:35

No need to apologise hashtag you are more than welcome here, but as you can see from our resident troll (waves at buttfan) we are not always sure who is playing the game or not, it pays to be wise with these underhanded individuals!

We hope you enjoy the threads, find them informative and are willing to get involved! We are always recruiting new #teamies #hun 😉

If you have a story please feel free to share with us, or if you are just fed up with scammcscamfaces and want it to stop thats ok too ;-)

hashtagwinning · 01/05/2016 12:37

That's the one. I was prospected several years ago under false pretences 'let's go for coffee, oh I've brought a friend, here's my colleague, here's the hard sell about how we all have skin' etc. And have followed with interest. Thing is, they've done it so well, marketing how aspirational it is that I found myself wondering if I'd made a mistake. Got hooked into reading all about it, doing the maths on getting up. The ultimately realised that I could never recruit and the thought of selling the products when I'd rather be wearing and using my favourite products and reading more info from here. It's such an interesting study into people's behaviour! I was just being nosy re the video Blush

Twunk · 01/05/2016 12:41

It is truly an interesting study. There are 2 elements to the selling narrative

"Become incredibly rich!"
And
"Make enough money that you can stay at home with your baby"

But don't worry you've not missed out as generally you can do neither. Over 99% of "business owners" never make money and most lose.

Tojoinornottojoin · 01/05/2016 12:50

I'm thinking of signing up with Tropic and having read this thread I don't think anyone has mentioned them or had a bad thing to say about them, is that because they are not considered an MLM ?

cozietoesie · 01/05/2016 12:51

hashtag

I doubt that there are many people on here who haven't privately had one single short moment when they thought to themselves 'Surely it can't be so .......' Just that Wee Small Hours moment of madness - which passes.

Then you think to yourself 'Well Yes - it is so.........'

Good to have you posting, anyway. Smile

darceybussell · 01/05/2016 12:51

I've got a friend in Arbonne at the moment. She's lost quite a bit of money, and also quite a lot of time. She's convinced that one day she's going to be rich beyond her wildest dreams. So she keeps going, and keeps spending.

Toobusytowee · 01/05/2016 13:03

Tropic is an MLM. It pops up every now and again.

Tojoinornottojoin · 01/05/2016 13:08

I'm still researching them at the moment, thought that this thread would enlighten me but it's not helped at all. Back to google.

Toobusytowee · 01/05/2016 13:09

More on Tropic here from our Eyes mlmtheamericandreammadenightmare.blogspot.co.uk/2015/11/alan-sugars-tropic-skin-care-very.html?m=1

Have a look Tojoinornottojoin.

Spongebobette · 01/05/2016 13:10

It's not just the 'get rich quick' or the 'earn - few hundred extra a month fitting it round your kids' lies, it's also the frankly bonkers 'willable income' that upsets me.
One of my bots has 3 small children and has told me that one of the reasons she's doing FL is to provide them with financial security if anything should happen to her. So although she's not raking it in yet (she admits) she thinks there is a golden future ahead if she just works for it
:-((

cozietoesie · 01/05/2016 13:12

Tojoin

I think you'll find that the blog entitled 'MLM the American Dream made nightmare' - linked in the
Opening Post and others - had a specific article in late 2015 on that organisation. You might have a look at it.

Out of interest - what were the primary factors that led you to consider joining? Smile

cozietoesie · 01/05/2016 13:13

X post. Smile

darceybussell · 01/05/2016 13:16

I'd steer clear if I were you tojoin. Someone mentioned them a few months ago and said that even by MLM standards the payment plan is shocking. I think there is a really high monthly personal spend requirement. That's on top of your usual 99% chance of losing money.

Tojoinornottojoin · 01/05/2016 13:21

I'm in 2 minds on which to try to be fair it's just there is not as much tropic bashing on here and considering it endorsed by Sir Alan surely it can't be that bad ?

Nolongerconfused · 01/05/2016 13:22

Hi Tojoin hope you are well. I have just come out of a MLM company. I would urge you to think long and hard before signing up and the promises are very different to the reality. Xx

Nolongerconfused · 01/05/2016 13:24

What are your reasons for wanting to join?
Are you prepared to prospect and recruit people?
Are you ok with selling to your friends and family or trying to find new customers?
Are you prepared to work 12/14 hours a day?

CamelsAndMaus · 01/05/2016 13:26

Greetings from the desert. Had a few things going on here so not really been online; but we went camping at the weekend and came back to find two more friends have been botted :( Not sure if it's been mentioned yet but these have been absorbed into Templespa.

cozietoesie · 01/05/2016 13:26

Tojoin

Why do people usually endorse products? Smile

I don't need an answer on this thread - just think hard to yourself - and read the article that was linked to above.
