A brief history of the threads so far-

A few people were bemused at their friends' strange personality changes when they joined MLMs.
Eyespying told us they were tragicomic, thought stopping cultic racketeers.
We told him to go away, he was clearly obsessed, and can he go to his own serious thread?
We delved a bit deeper into the issues.
Eyes started creeping back. We told him he was too serious.
We became more horrified at the information being turned up and were sharing links.
Eyes told us aboutMerchants of Deception.
Timeless Vie was set up as a parody about MLMs.[[www.facebook.com/timelessvie
Facebook,]] Twitter, blog, Instagram and YouTube were all used.
People started coming forward, telling of their experiences in MLMs.
We became more horrified.
Bot Watch started on Facebook where links were put up of interest to do with MLMs.
Botwatchblog started and produced factual analysis of the discussions from MN.
MLM members (bots) waded in saying it was all ok. You can earn great money. You just have to work 19 hours a day and not worry about morals.
Bots complained about their names being used. Their lawyers complained to MNHQ so that MN now do not allow us to use bots' names or show screengrabs of their writings even if it is in the public domain.
Blogs and FB posts increased, with the increasing amount of facts and whistleblowers coming forward.
FL lawyer tried to get TV YouTube video banned.
Bots claimed we were bullying them because we were asking them questions they couldn't answer. we were called middle aged women and accused of being drug dealers.
It got a bit nasty so we ate some cheese for a bit and they went away.
Health claims from FL bots now reducing dramatically as a result of pestering from all of us.
We stopped telling Eyes he was too serious. We all started thinking in his language and realised he was right.
Eyes turned out to be very funny and entertained us all.
Sunday Times article produced exposing FL. With a little help from people here.
Lawyers still persisting in trying to ban TV's videos.

I meant to add, chimps, that you talk about how hard you work in order to succeed. I believe you do, but add that people who are enticed to sign up as downlines are not told the whole truth about what they are signing up for. I cannot count the number of times I have read about '5-10 hours a week, spend time with family' posts. The reality, you will agree, is rather different; working for MLM is all-consuming.

Do you agree that FL and other MLM companies should be honest about the level of commitment that is necessary?

Do you also agree that FL should be transparent about the regular costs that are incurred in order to achieve the brief set by uplines; regular purchasing of books, CDs, stationery, and other materials, monthly website fees, training expenses, etc etc?

Melaw21 · 01/04/2016 22:28

"Hence my reply. I have never hidden the fact that I choose to be involved with a MLM company - nor the fact that I do quite well from it too - enough that has truly made a difference to mine and my families lives - I have also explained that like anything - many succeed and many fail."

WTAF did I just read???.... I swear to god we are now in the twilight zone.....

Melaw21 · 01/04/2016 22:29

No chimps of course you have never hidden your FBO status.... Fucking hell... Pull the other one!

Melaw21 · 01/04/2016 22:31

Thanks for the reddit link last I reiterate... There is more than one way to 'wank a cactus', even if it is a little prickly...

Bearbehind · 01/04/2016 22:38

Do you reckon chimps is even going to SA?

BSintolerant · 01/04/2016 22:38

Melaw 😂😂

Is interfering with plants legal? If so, we could bring down Forever Living by lobbying parliament. The Wanking Cactii Bill (2016) would keep the Commons and the House of Lords amused for quite a while. 😂👌🌵

ambler21 · 01/04/2016 22:49

I was trying to sit on my hands but now that paragraph has been shown again I've de-handsat :)

WWC used the phrase....'many succeed'.

Please define success in the context of your particular MLM and then please give us the numbers who have achieved this success.

prettyusefulsometimes · 01/04/2016 22:52

Thank you for your considered reply to my previous post.

Could you clarify:

workingwithchimps wrote at 22:01:04 on 1st April 2016 after I was attacked for being a greedy F'ing twat

workingwithchimps wrote at 00:37:40 on 16th March 2016 called a greedy F*ing C*t

I don't use those words interchangeably. Which quote contains the correct alleged insult?

To make my post more relevant, a close family member began chemotherapy treatment this week at a fantastic purpose built centre staffed with amazing knowledge, care and compassion. They left after the session with a huge bag of medication and guess what was in it?

ABSOLUTELY NO F**KING ALOE VERA!!!! Or anything containing ingredients with lots of iiiiiiiis. At no point were they told it was their fault because they'd upset The Universe. Hopefully they will be chosen to start a new therapy regime that is being trialled because, you know, science, empirical evidence, peer reviewed research, not person on social media say it tru so must be tru babezz.

Someone asked a page or two ago what to do about dodgy adverts that they see. You can complain to the ASA by filling in a simple online form. Here it is www.asa.org.uk/Consumers/How-to-complain.aspx
They are interested in misleading or false adverts, including health claims and recruitment adverts.

workingwithchimps · 01/04/2016 22:57

Pretty - you will find the latter was used - I try not to type it as I detest the word

throwingpebbles · 01/04/2016 23:00

And there's your cue chimps... Go on, find us some nice linkies to some properly peer reviewed evidence that aloe can cure any of the ailments bots boast it can ....
Genuinely interested in hearing from you on that point....? Saw a bot yesterday encouraging a pregnant woman to buy her forever tablets as they would cure morning sickness Hmm

Who tells them all this stuff?

DollyTwat · 01/04/2016 23:03

thing is, these threads have moved on somewhat, we are all very careful what we post. We've made a big effort not to name anyone or make any personal remarks.
In fact it would seem that someone is a bit disappointed about that

If there's a thread where there's something you don't like, report the post. No one's looking at those now, they're looking at this one

So don't let the troll derail the thread

stopfaffing · 01/04/2016 23:03

pretty thanks for that link.

I particularly like this paragraph, about the non-existent income that MLM reps receive.

"Most MLMs take advantage of the legal exemption granted by the FTC and don't bother with disclosure trickery. They rely on absence of facts to support their recruiting promises. Avon (NYSE:AVP), for example, offers no historical income information to USA consumers for its "business opportunity." Same for Tupperware (NYSE:TUP) in the USA, but it does in Canada, as required by law there. Tupperware's Canadian disclosure, when organized into readable data, reveals that the bottom 99% of its Canadian sales force received on average $11.49 per week, before expenses, and two-thirds of all annual commissions are awarded to the top 6%. Similarly, ACN, the MLM famously endorsed by Donald Trump, offers nothing for USA participants, but does offers an "average income" figure to Canadians. For "active" distributors, ACN discloses in a tiny-print link at the bottom of the page called "earnings statement" that in 2010 the "average" income was "approximately $500" a year (which is less than the cost of joining and participating). These absurd "income" numbers indicate why so many other MLMs offer no disclosures to USA consumers for due diligence use, and those that do inevitably concoct grotesquely misleading documents."

throwingpebbles · 01/04/2016 23:05

Also if you see anyone wrong,y using their profession to lend legitimacy to the products then you can report them to their professional body too. Eg solicitors regulation authority / medical professionals regulators etc

The SRA, for instance, take this misuse of a professional label v seriously indeed. And it is made v clear to medical professionals that they will be struck off if they so much as dabble in peddling dodgy products on the side ....

DollyTwat · 01/04/2016 23:06

Time for some useful links if anyone's on a PC (am on my phone)

darceybussell · 01/04/2016 23:07

I saw a friend today, he was recently made redundant and is scraping by on savings until he can find another job. His wife decided, when they found out he was at risk of redundancy, that an MLM would help her earn a bit of extra money to keep the family afloat.

A few months later and he's quite upset (and I'm upset too!) She's earned nothing and she's spent quite a lot of money on products and training days. Money they don't have. Plus she has spent many evenings and weekends doing this stuff instead of seeing her husband and child. When he tried to confront her she was defensive and wouldn't listen. Presumably her new 'mates' have told her he's just being negative and to ignore him.

They can't afford this, he's got no job, they have a big mortgage and a small child, and she is spending hundreds every month on bloody face cream and eye shadow. This is just bullshit!

MrGrumpy01 · 01/04/2016 23:08

I did read a study the other day and Bee propilis or whatever it is called about reducing tumours. But it was a very small study and seemed to only be reported on websites with the words earth or natural or mercola in the title so I am not sure if it has that much substance to it. People want it to be true though, people believe many a thing when desperately searching for a cure/relief from symptoms.

shirleyknotanotherbot · 01/04/2016 23:09

Totally shocked that eyes has been banned. Free speech & mumsnet don't equate? Very sad day.

BSintolerant · 01/04/2016 23:13

Je suis Eyespying.

DayToDayGlobalShit · 01/04/2016 23:16

FFS just caught up and am slightly outraged that HQ have banned Eyes.

What on earth for? What do you mean, only posts on this subject. Where does it say we must post on different ones? We post on subjects that interest us,

HQ - Are you siding with the MLM's here? All most strange.

BSintolerant · 01/04/2016 23:17

darcey That is awful. Sad

But hey, as long as the troll is happy...

cozietoesie · 01/04/2016 23:18

That's a dreadful tale, darcey.

throwingpebbles · 01/04/2016 23:19

every time you read a bit post how successful they are etc, remember this eye opening story by Craig Morgan

throwingpebbles · 01/04/2016 23:20

Heart breaking story darcey. Truly heartbreaking. And this or variants of it being told far too many times

ambler21 · 01/04/2016 23:24

BS ;)
