A brief history of the threads so far-

A few people were bemused at their friends' strange personality changes when they joined MLMs.
Eyespying told us they were tragicomic, thought stopping cultic racketeers.
We told him to go away, he was clearly obsessed, and can he go to his own serious thread?
We delved a bit deeper into the issues.
Eyes started creeping back. We told him he was too serious.
We became more horrified at the information being turned up and were sharing links.
Eyes told us aboutMerchants of Deception.
Timeless Vie was set up as a parody about MLMs.[[www.facebook.com/timelessvie
Facebook,]] Twitter, blog, Instagram and YouTube were all used.
People started coming forward, telling of their experiences in MLMs.
We became more horrified.
Bot Watch started on Facebook where links were put up of interest to do with MLMs.
Botwatchblog started and produced factual analysis of the discussions from MN.
MLM members (bots) waded in saying it was all ok. You can earn great money. You just have to work 19 hours a day and not worry about morals.
Bots complained about their names being used. Their lawyers complained to MNHQ so that MN now do not allow us to use bots' names or show screengrabs of their writings even if it is in the public domain.
Blogs and FB posts increased, with the increasing amount of facts and whistleblowers coming forward.
FL lawyer tried to get TV YouTube video banned.
Bots claimed we were bullying them because we were asking them questions they couldn't answer. we were called middle aged women and accused of being drug dealers.
It got a bit nasty so we ate some cheese for a bit and they went away.
Health claims from FL bots now reducing dramatically as a result of pestering from all of us.
We stopped telling Eyes he was too serious. We all started thinking in his language and realised he was right.
Eyes turned out to be very funny and entertained us all.
Sunday Times article produced exposing FL. With a little help from people here.
Lawyers still persisting in trying to ban TV's videos.

Hello lovely fellow MLM affected huns - newbie on board so be gentle with me :-) found these threads through the power of Google while researching the horrible, happy clappy Nu- Skin that has sucked in a good friend of mine ( who is in Marbella as I speak on a 'success trip') - nothing that I say is dissuading her that its a nasty evil pyramid scam - in fact she is all over this new LifeTreeWorld that is taking over my fb feed (makes a change from the omni-present teeth whitening toothpaste I suppose...) advice needed please as I love my friend and am really worried for her, although I realise it may be too late by the time she has been further indoctrinated in Marbs... :-(

SuffolkNWhat · 07/04/2016 19:33

The bots are starting to peddle on the MN Facebook post linking to the eczema thread. Bloody typical.

gottaloveascamhun · 07/04/2016 19:43

OMG Merchants of Deception. I have just faked a migraine to read more of this. Hubby doing a Stirling job with the kids. Download and read NOW huns !!!! Incredibly compelling.

Yeah saw that suffolk!!! Ffs!

Found this rather excellent post being shared on Twitter. It's advice from a Herbalife bot but echoes a lot of what we have been told goes on in MLMs and I guess why people get really sucked in and think the top bots are all amazing!

throwingpebbles · 07/04/2016 20:47

Life tree world looks truly awful doesn't it. Strange how many do more than one MLM or flit from one to the next ...

throwingpebbles · 07/04/2016 20:50

This could be worth watching secret

throwingpebbles · 07/04/2016 20:52

Mwa ha ha. Huns congeatulating themselves on Body Shop at home Opportuniy. Dropped a little linky to Tiimeless Vie into the mix :)

LMGTFY · 07/04/2016 21:24

ray & throwing I'm a prolific googler! It's my answer to everything, I can't let stuff lie which is how I ended up reading into FL a year or so ago (and being wordily scared by the lovely eyes!).

DayToDayGlobalShit · 07/04/2016 21:31

I often wondered what your user name stood for too Grin

LMGTFY · 07/04/2016 21:34

Ha ha, I've had this name for a while so don't give it any thought! For anyone wondering it's Let Me Google That For You. A response to people who are too stupid to Google it themselves, one I could do with being able to use on Facebook. A lot.

gottaloveascamhun · 07/04/2016 21:45

Why is there no like button?? ( for LMGTFY :) )

throwingpebbles · 07/04/2016 21:49

In my first job after uni (early 2000s, v traditional old firm(I was known as "internet girl" because they were so amazed at how I could find out everything in moments.... Eventually i stopped pretending I was a genius and introduced them to the magic of Google 😂😂😂

SecretSmile1811 · 07/04/2016 21:53

Thank you for the links Pebbles, some good advice there - and yes LTW sounds nightmareish, I just can't believe that these companies are allowed to operate the way they do and that so many people fall under their spell and believe the false promises of 6 figure salaries and# bossbabedom shudders

ambler21 · 07/04/2016 21:58

LMGTFY loop :)

Motorheadmum · 07/04/2016 22:07

Evening all! Sorry I've been quiet but so much going on! Unfortunately I haven't joined an MLM it's my real J.O.B.

I be seen an ad saying if you want to buy your child an extra special present for a big birthday, I'm guessing 18th, then spend £199 on a business in a box! Yep they seriously believe it! It is another way to suck people in....

LMGTFY · 07/04/2016 22:12

Awe gotta Blush

throwing I got named 'the sourcerer' for my ability to source anything! Digging out these scammers is right up my street, I could just do with more time to analyse what I find, not having the answer frustrates me.

throwingpebbles · 07/04/2016 22:23

motorhead - awful! But I can see the really "botted to the fucking eyeballs"* bots thinking it is a great gift....

I have also seen the business in a box advertised a more truly romantic gift than an engagement ring (if chucking ever tried to woo me with such a box he is losing his delicate bits ...)

*TM the lovely eye spying

throwingpebbles · 07/04/2016 23:00

Sorry, I know I bang on about it a bit but just looking at this netmums page is giving me the rage Angry Angry Angry
It's like a shopping list of MLM scams!

Twunk · 07/04/2016 23:38

I'm sure chucking would get you a business in a box if you really want one throwing Grin

For some reason it makes me think of poo in Tupperware and that other peddler of dodgy health claims, the notoriously litigious Gillian McKeith

Twunk · 07/04/2016 23:55

Ugh I see what you mean Throwing - a complete rogue's gallery.

So essentially "working for yourself" means "not getting paid to be an MLM's victim"

Toobusytowee · 08/04/2016 02:43

Secretsmile, I am reading a book about how to help people in cults which you might want to read. It is called 'combatting cult mind control' by Steve Hassan.

I haven't finished it yet. It's on my long list of things to do.

Some tips gleaned so far-

Do not criticise the MLM. She will see you as being against her and her family and everything she believes in. She could cut you off completely. If she mentions it, say you don't wish to discuss her work and then change the subject.

Keep her in touch with her previous self. Remind her of things you did together, fond memories, music you liked etc. make sure her past isn't rewritten by her new truths.

Be positive and kind and friendly towards her.

If she voices concerns, don't jump on that and spill everything you think about the MLM. It is common to have a wobble and then go back. Much like a bad boy/girlfriend. During these periods you could point her in the direction of a blog/ post/ thread/ etc and phrase it as if you just found this and would she like to see what she thinks. Keep it neutral.

That's all the advice I've got for now. Will do a blog in more detail when I have more knowledge.

Omg throwing now that idea as a romantic present is botshit crazy! I think I would commit murder if anyone was stupid enough to do that for me!

It's just sad that some parents who won't have seen threads like these would actually think they are buying their child a business and a chance to make something of their lives. Then the child would be under even more pressure to make it work as their parents had done that for them. Honestly it's not right.
