Income support help!

Hi I rang up and applied for Income support on 16/2/16 (so I will be paid from that date). I haven't had a letter through yet stating what I'm entitled to, but I've just checked my bank and I have a payment of £83 from them.
Now I'm hoping that I'm not only going to get £83 every 2 weeks! I was expecting £146 as I'm a single person over 25.
I foster, so therefore have no income.
Just wondering if anyone knows what the £86 might be as it seems an odd number compared to the figures of entitlement I've seen on various sites?
If I don't get a letter tomorrow I'll give them a ring.
Tia

Benefits are usually paid two weeks in areares so that could be first 7-10days then you will slot in to next pay date. Often do random payments at the start. Worth a ring to check what's coming when though.

It would depend on the cut off dates, you may receive a smaller payment at first from the first date your claim was made IYSWIM

That makes sense. Thankyou! Will ring them tomorrow if I still don't get a letter.

are you sure the payment is for income support and not child benefit?

Flower20166 · 03/03/2016 19:24

Hi greengoblin. Yes definitely income support. Is that similar to a child benefit payment?
The forms I filled out definitely said income support.

My first Income Support payment was for about £90 then I was slotted into their system a week later where I started receiving my normal amount. HTH

Hopefully that's the case for me too Rach4boys :)

child benefit is £20.70 for one child and usually paid 4 weekly which is £82.80. if it says income support on the payment info on your statement though then would agree with other posters that this is just the first payment

HoobleDooble · 03/03/2016 23:15

My Child Benefit comes into my account with a reference which starts with CHB

Flower20166 · 04/03/2016 01:50

Yes it does actually say IS at the end of the payment.
Thanks for your help everyone.
