Dp and I are thinking of starting a business which will involve selling everything we have atm and we need advice on a few things regarding tax etc Can we book a one off consultation with an IFA and just ask questions or do we need to employ him/her on a longer term basis? Also how expensive is it?

It might be worth booking an appointment with your bank's small business department. If you bank with them, they are unlikely to charge you to discuss matters as they will be hoping to carry your business account and possibly help fund the business. You can always contact an IFA later.
