All this sneering at how stupid people must be to go into an MLM, or like any of their products, has a really unpleasant tone......... Why would anyone else own up on here to having fallen for it? Do you genuinely want to help people to get out of them and escape, or just pat yourselves on the back as to how superior you are to them?

sminkypink · 16/02/2016 19:10

The only unpleasantness I can see in this thread is from you, kathysclown
I can't see any sneering. I don't think anyone is 'stupid' to get sucked into an mlm. Why do you think Eric Shleiber called his book about Amway, 'Merchants of Deception?' Because it's deception, that's why.
MLMS like beautiful women with intelligence, charisma and attractive kids don't they? It makes the 'dream' that they are selling look more real doesn't it?

lastuseraccount123 · 16/02/2016 19:11

no one said anyone was stupid except you, kathy or said anyone was surperior. you're the jamberry rep, right?

no one here thinks people are stupid. we know full well how easy it is to get sucked into these things. but it's ironic because a lot of people deeply sucked into the MLMs do seem to think they are superior because of the way people who work at jobs are looked at. Just Over Broke, etc etc.

But yeah, i do think jamberry nail wraps suck, as a product, it's true.

OP posts:
lastuseraccount123 · 16/02/2016 19:13

but most MLM products aren't that great - if you read back or check the blogs linked there's loads of links explaining why. So I stand by my opinion that like other MLM products, jamberry nailwraps are not my bag, baby

OP posts:
lastuseraccount123 · 16/02/2016 19:17

and i know with certainty that if you do decide to leave, you will get a lot of support from us. I know because I've seen it first hand. So there's that.

sminkypink · 16/02/2016 19:20

I think that encouraging a woman who needs money to spend £60 on nail wraps every month is really bad advice.

I know what my deceased granny would say about that advice. She worked as a cleaner all her life and died aged 89 owning 3 houses and tens of thousands of pounds in shares and savings. Yep. Residual income from a cleaning j.o.b. Not what an mlm opportunity would lead you to believe.

I've been down on my luck in the past, skint, broke, whatever. I'd recommend anyone down on their luck to develop an addiction to the money saving expert forums, they are brilliant. Funnily enough they do not recommend investing in an mlm opportunity.

Kathysclown · 16/02/2016 19:23

No I'm not a Jamberry rep, I held an online party for a friend 12 months ago, and shared my experiences of that further back in this thread. I have no other attachment to them, or any other MLM, other than that (but it seems that you don't believe me on that?). I truly wish I had never offered up an opinion on Jamberry specifically on here.

Just look at your last couple of posts though lastuser and sminkypink ...... the tone is really dismissive of both customers and distributers of MLMs, and my point is that IF someone were reading this thread and considering their position, Im not sure they would feel very welcome here?

You make me feel stupid, let alone someone who was actively involved. That is the point I am (trying) to make (badly it seems).

Totallyparred · 16/02/2016 19:26

Wow - one person has the guts to say how she/he feels - next people are turning on them... "lighthearted" this has certainly not become.....

lastuseraccount123 · 16/02/2016 19:28

well, a. it's hard to read tone on the internet and b. we're dismissive of MLM bs thinking, which is pretending 'distributors' are 'in business for themselves' when they're actually not, they're the customer and they're being exploited.

That's what the MLMs say.

No one likes to hear they're being exploited.

But it's the truth.

BTW, Dubai, or rather certain influencial figures in Dubai, once apparently fell hook line and sinker of the 'MLM/Direct Selling' fairy story. They were spoon fed the parallel fairy story that if they accepted, and encouraged, MLM/Direct Selling companies, then these companies would regularly bring mega-bucks to Dubai's conference centres, hotels, restaurants, etc.

Kathysclown · 16/02/2016 19:48

I would imagine, Eyespying that Dubai would be a prime location for MLMs to take people on reward trips etc - glitzy but relatively easy access from the UK, bit
Of a wow factor if you like bling..... And the culture in the region is one of 'easy money' so they wouldn't be inclined to look behind the facade of ML s too much.

lastuseraccount123 · 16/02/2016 19:51

I have a shitload of Stella & Dot jewellery and stuff at home from my friend who was sucked into S&D and 'selling' it. I don't feel stupid about buying it, though I am kinda pissed now i realise how crap the quality is of the pieces.

No one should feel stupid. They lie lie lie like rugs to get you sucked in.

OP posts:
DollyTwat · 16/02/2016 19:56

Let's not argue amongst ourselves. That's exactly what the MLM's would want.

Kathy you're very welcome here, part of what we do is to lay bare the actual cost of the schemes, it's not intended to make anyone feel stupid.

We are trying to keep this lighthearted and humour is essential otherwise it becomes way too serious.

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 16/02/2016 20:07

People will be flocking sign up for out £25 parslai nail wraps. They have anti-aging properties (putting plastic on your nails can indeed affect your whole hand and even your face) and can cure dementia (the care home market is going to be huge - it's the ideal way to earn a little more money when you're retired from an actual job).

Eyespying · 16/02/2016 20:09

A concerted effort was made almost 10 years to infect all the more-liberal Gulf States with the 'MLM' fairy story. This effort was financed with piles of stolen cash coming the wealthy members a major, organised-crime syndicate based in the USA, but certain Gulf States apparently chipped in, evidently believing that 'MLM Direct/Selling' would bring them future financial benefits; particularly, after the oil runs out.

The result was propaganda like this tightly-scripted video produced by the so-called 'Direct Selling Educational Institute' in Dubai.

In reality, the DSEI has been the 'MLM' crime-syndicate's Ministry of Truth

Powertotheparalai · 16/02/2016 20:14

I tried the parslai nail wraps on my toes and lost two whole shoe sizes! #nolie
