getting credit when not working

I had enough savings to buy a product outright but as I may have some other expenses soon I decided to apply for credit. I have a good credit rating but am not working. I feel really stupid now because in the shop it advertised these spread the cost plans and said subject to status which presumably means you have to be working.

I got halfway through applying and was then asked for my job details. Partly because I felt embarassed for thinking I could have stuff on credit when I probably cant whilst unemployed, partly because I felt I would have wasted the staffs time after they'd done so muhc of the form already and partly because of habit, (whenever people aske what I do I state my profession even though I'm not working at the moment as I have qualifications which enable to be self employed) and also I couldn't think straight as I was coming down with yet another illness so was burning up and struggling to breathe and nearly passing out as it was so hot in there, I didn't tell them I wasn't working and isntead gave the job title I would have if I was doing hat I am qaulified to do.

Have I broken the law? I was hoping it wouldn't be accepted but it was

Yes you have committed fraud high unlikely you'll be caught and it's mostly likely you'll get the credit, just for god sake don't default on the loan.
