Hi - can anyone help?

My husband made a £500 charity donation... From our joint account. I take it that as he's a higher rate tax payer - and I don't pay tax - and he ticked 'gift aid' ... I need to pay tax on half the donation? :(

Even if it's from your joint account, he can "claim" all of it. But if you pay standard rate tax, and make a £250 donation, the charity gets your tax and there's nothing to do with higher rate. Your tax affair are separate from his.
