My boss has payed us all by cheque today, as we'd usually get paid in cash on Friday. But he's off on hols tmrw.
Do you think it'll clear before Christmas?

It usually takes 3 working days. So Tues/Wed/Thu clear by Friday.

yULeYSEES · 19/12/2006 09:15

mrcandmre · 19/12/2006 09:15

If it's that useless Halifax, it won't.

yULeYSEES · 19/12/2006 09:16

Hope it pisses down wherever he is

ScoobyDooTheyKnowItsChristmas · 19/12/2006 09:16

Depends what bank it is & also what sort of account you have...

munz · 19/12/2006 09:18

if it's lloyds then no - I paid in a cheque on a weds and didn't clear till the following tues - althou if your bank is the same as his then yes should do.

yULeYSEES · 19/12/2006 09:20

Is there anyone you could borrow a bit from? This is awful hun, I'd be getting the old voodoo doll out. We once had a skint christmas as dh was made redundant and it's a bad crack.

mrcandmre · 19/12/2006 09:56

Well, I should be ok as I have my DH, but I feel sorry for the others as some of them have no partners to support them if they have no money.
I'll tell them all to ring their banks just to be sure.

And yeah...my boss is an a£$%hole!

Thanks for all your replies!..and happy Christmas

steffy1 · 19/12/2006 10:09

im with barclays-i pay in cheques on a saturday normally and they clear by the next saturday.

am sort of thinking it might be a bit late.....nasty boss!

fortyplus · 19/12/2006 10:11

Do you have a friend who would give you some cash in return for a cheque from you? That way his will definitely have cleared before yours.

DizzyBinterWonderland · 19/12/2006 10:13

you can pay for cheques to be cleared by express. costs about £12 i think. your bank ring their bank, check they have the money and give it to you early.

HoHoHorsewoman · 19/12/2006 10:17

We get paid by cheque also - due to get it today. Joint account is with Halifax, and it usually clears on the Friday if paid in on a Tuesday. Always thought Lloyds did too (where my own account is held) but last month went to withdraw cash on the Fri, and it wouldn't let me, so maybe not. It sucks, doesn't it? Have to say, though, DH was working for terrible employer last year, and by christmas had only received 3 weeks wages in over 2 months (given in dribs and drabs.) During that period we had our annual holiday, both DD's birthdays and christmas to contend with, and only 3 weeks wages to do it with, so this year, having to wait until December 22nd for the christmas money will seem like a breeze!

fortyplus · 19/12/2006 10:21

That must make it tough to get your oats before Christmas

HoHoHorsewoman · 19/12/2006 10:25

I don't like oats - it's a long time since I was put out to pasture

UCM · 19/12/2006 10:27

If you have internet banking and have two accounts with the same bank, it's sometimes possible to transfer funds that way after 2 days. DH often gets paid by cheque and cannot draw against them from cashpoint but for some reason I can put the money in my account sooner by internet, then draw out using my card.

fortyplus · 19/12/2006 10:35

HoHoHorsewoman - do you still have horses? I had them from when I was 12 but the last one was put down about 18 months ago. I still ride friends' horses though - in fact I'm out this afternoon on a lovely 15.2hh dapple grey Connemara x TB.

Sorry... I'm totally digressing from original subject... was very boring as a child!

HoHoHorsewoman · 19/12/2006 11:48

Yes, fortyplus. DH trains racehorses and I am surrounded by them (we have a stud farm on site, too, so there will be lots of foals knocking about the place soon!) I have been practically raised by horses, as are my 2 DDs!

HUGE apologies for the hijack!
