Pretty much that really. Tix were bought as a Christmas present and came to £120 for the pair.

About a week later the star will pull out after a certain date...so hes obviously not in the show on the night the tickets were for

Been offered a credit note but no refund

This theatre is an hours drive away and the star of the show was the only reason for going.

Wondered if there is any redress under the sale of goods act.

Check the t+c for the venue-there might be some small print saying that they cannot guarantee certain actors being in a show etc, which gives them a get out clause.

Even saying the above, I'd be fighting tooth and nail for a refund though, especially given that these shows rely on the big names to sell tickets

If everyone who is disappointed in the star not appearing insisted on a refund the economic viability of the production would be questionable putting the jobs of the rest of the cast, crew and theatre staff in jeopardy. And who's to say that the star wouldn't have a cold/sick bug etc on the day you have tickets even if (s)he was scheduled to still appear? You can never guarantee seeing any particular member of a cast of live theatre. Go and enjoy the whole show and appreciate the work of the entire cast!

Could you resell them on one of the secondary ticketing websites? I doubt you'll get a refund, normally an exchange for another night is the only option.

You're seeing a theatre production, not a one man show featuring X celebrity. You should be happy with the credit note.
