Car insurance - HELP

Basically I had a bit of a prang this morning - nothing too major at all driving the kids to school. No one was hurt and there was limited damage to their car and mine needs a bit of work to do but not undriveable.

I talked to the insurance people on the phone and processed the claim and they have said it's all fine and I probably won't hear from them again. Now I've been looking through the car insurance stuff in a bit more detail and realised that they haven't got my 3 points that from last january but I swear I would have rung them at the time. I've since renewed with this company and I just can't imagine not having rung them.

Now I've made a claim and I don't know what to do! Do I ring them back up as I didn't realise and when they were going through everything on the phone this morning they asked the question and as I was in a bit of a flap, I think I said no.

facepalm What happens now?

Just call them back and tell them.
Say you think you've reported this but can't be sure.
Glad your accident was only minor.

Have you renewed our policy since you got your three points? If not then I wouldn't worry about it. You're only obliged to tell them when you renew.

But as WooOoo says the only thing you can do to make sure is to call them and ask them.

It says I've since renewed with this company so I'm presuming that means you've renewed since the 3 points. Was it mentioned at all on the renewal paperwork? Are they the only points you have?

You'll need to call them and let them know. You could tell them that you think you told them, and raise a complaint if you feel that they did know but haven't recorded it.

Ultimately, I believe it's still your responsibility to check that your renewal paperwork is correct, though. If you've only got 3 points, you're not likely to have your policy cancelled, although the company may have charged you more due to the points so you may have to pay them the difference. They will then continue your insurance and deal with today's incident.

You'd only have an issue if they said they wouldn't have renewed your cover had they known about the points. Hopefully it won't come to that. Call them now and you'll find out their stance on it quite quickly.
