Have recently ordered online a free lg chocolate pink phone with free ipod on monthly contract. They have said that following a credit check they want a £150 deposit.Has anyone else had similar ? I know our credit rating is crap following dh redundancy a couple of years ago, but we are doing ok now.£150 is a lot this time of year and dd1 has asked santa for a chocolate pink phone ! Cant afford £300 to buy one so thought i`d get a contract one as its cheaper than the one i am using. And what are they going to do with my £150 ?

I used to work for a mobile phone company donkey's years ago. We did sometimes ask for deposits for the call credit. You could ask them if it's a deposit for calls and if so, to lower the call credit limit so you pay less deposit.

yes it is standard
I got phone with orange about 8 yrs ago my credit was umm shoddy
They asked for £75 deposit back then, which was refunded after a year if I made all payments in time
I also had a credit limit of £45 a month which they enforced rigorously

Oh, also when I moved to the UK, both Orange and TMobile (or whatever they were then) wouldn't give me a contract phone at all as I didn't have a credit history.

I have been with O2 ever since, and they didn't ask for a deposit or anything, provided I paid by DD... Perhaps try another operator? They should all do that phone. It's v popular.

Other option is ebay... You might find a used one. I always keep the boxes and bits for my phones so I can sell them on if they're worth anything.
