AI scheme (card protection scheme)

SauvignonPlonker · 23/09/2015 17:27

I've recently been sent a claim form for this scheme, which I have to complete to claim compensation for mis-selling.

I don't remember buying this, or any provider I may have bought it from.

Have had a look at Money Saving Expert & am not much wiser - apart from the wording of how to complete the form.

Anyone else in the same situation? Or know how to complete the form if you have no idea of where/how it was purchased?

I am able to claim too. Mine was through Barclaycard and was Sentinel.

SauvignonPlonker · 23/09/2015 19:07

I think I had Sentinel years ago (circa 1993!) from Barclaycard but haven't had the card for years. Don't think I had it in 2005, when the scheme dates back to.
I honestly have no recollection about having card protection from 2005 onwards; I therefore don't know how to fill in the form.
Gah!!!!

There is a chance you were still just paying it as I paid on my cc each year, the thing that is like a dd but charges your cc.

Catzpyjamas · 23/09/2015 19:15

I got this too and just copied the wording from template 2 on the MoneySavingExpert advice page as it sounded more plausible than template 1 Confused. Since it was money I didn't expect to get back, I just sent it off thinking that will be a bonus if I get anything.

SauvignonPlonker · 25/09/2015 20:19

I finally caved & called them today; they were able to confirm that it was Barclaycard payment protection I had, from 1997-2006.

So I completed the form with the wording on MSE website, but am not expecting much as only 2 years the scheme covers.

I'll try to claim the rest from Barclaycard, using their complaints procedure, although I'm not sure I have all the necessary information.

Who did you call? AI?

LittleMissStubborn · 25/09/2015 20:32

It was £20 odd a year though so even a couple of years will be nice little treat money.

I need to do mine, I will go onto MSE to get the wording.

Do it I just got a cheque for £100 today

onlywhenyouleave · 25/09/2015 20:41

DH had this but didn't have any details. He managed to complete the form (not sure how) and we got a cheque for £140 yesterday Smile

SauvignonPlonker · 25/09/2015 21:29

Eldon, I called AI. Said to them I wanted to confirm that it was the same product as I suspected; they were quite happy to confirm the product & time that I had it for.

Thanks SauvPl - I have the paperwork but can't remember the dates I had the product for so that's great

Catzpyjamas · 03/10/2015 13:43

Hello, just to update. I had not long posted my claim form when I posted before (maybe a week or so earlier) and I received a cheque today for quite a bit more than expected. Well worth doingGrin

skyeskyeskye · 05/10/2015 14:00

Good to come across this thread. I haven't filled my form in yet, but think I have paid it since 2005 and it was £25 going up to £32 a year, so I am hoping to get back a cheque for at least £250.

I didn't realise that they had already started doing it and were paying so quick, so I will get my form in the post asap!

EldonAve · 06/10/2015 12:16

I have done my form and I am going to have a go at claiming for the years before 2005 direct from the bank

SauvignonPlonker · 06/10/2015 13:44

I'm hoping to do the same, but I can't find/remember my card details. Hoping something will turn up when I'm raking through files etc.

I had the product from 1997-2007, I think.

I thought it was some sort of scam as well but after reading up on MSE, I completed the forms and have had a cheque for £80 Smile

EldonAve · 02/11/2015 06:47

Got my cheque

SauvignonPlonker · 02/11/2015 20:45

Me too! I've also written to Barclaycard, making a complaint covering the years not included by the A1 scheme (pre-2005). Fingers crossed!!

I have just received my cheque. I received £381.18 which was £290 in charges and the rest was interest.

This is well worth doing!

SauvignonPlonker · 08/01/2016 23:27

I got a cheque through from Barclaycard just before Xmas, covering the pre-2005 years. It was around £250, it certainly helped with the festive finances.

Thanks for the update - I must try and find my cardguard records
