Argos refund to credit card when you no longer have the exact card (but still have the account, just with a new card)

Hope someone can help - I bought a Jawbone from Argos. it played up and eventually stopped working altogether. I returned it to Argos and because they didn't have the same Jawbone in stock they agreed to a full refund. Te problem came when I didn't have the exact credit card I bought it with. During the period between buying the Jawbone and returning it the bank advised that my card "had been compromised" and issued me with a new card - bank account remains exactly the same, it is just the number on the card that is now different. I had my driving licence and everything with me to prove I was who I said I was and it was just the number on the same bank account that I had paid for the goods with that had changed.

Argos advised that they would try to put through a refund but that head office may not pay because the number on the card was different. They advised that if the money didn't show up in y account as refunded within ten days I would have to go into Argos and ask for gift vouchers to the same amount of the Jawbone (??79.99p).

I haven't done this yet but can see a battle when I do, but more importantly I don't want gift vouchers, I want a refund because my goods were faulty. Could anyone advise me what my rights are here please? Many thanks.

The refund should go in to the replacement card. Your bank are obliged to transfer it.
