Was this really bad?

Ive just posted on my local freecycle site asking for toys for the girls for christmas. I dont know why, but have a feeling the post will be seen as "cheeky" and out of order.

I know MN are doing a xmas fund, and I appreciate any help I get from you guys, but I wanted to be able to give the girls something from us!

Am I cheeky? or pro-active in trying to give them a good christmas after a not particularly (sp?) year.

Think its a good idea - im forever seeing unworthy "wants" on freecycle, but I think yours is worthy... IYSWIM...

If I had them to give, I wouldn't mind doing so on Freecycle.

I give mostly to Bernardo's, however, b/c they're currently doing a lot of really good work supporting Social Services here in the Lothians area and helping very vulnerable families in crisis.

Hmmm,it may be construed as cheeky but if you don't ask you don't get.

I am not comfortable with the idea that the poor/needy should, metaphorically speaking stand in the corner, eyes downcast and cap in hand, hoping that someone notices them

Especially not when gross greedy City fuckers get hundreds of thousands of pounds in bonuses every year.

Good luck to you JARM>

It's not cheeky JARM, as Moondog said, if you don't ask you don't get and people will only give you things if they want to, not because you've got a gun against their head !

I've seen all sorts asked for on the Freecycle group I belong to, including white goods, cars and computers which might arguably be worth much more than a few children's toys.

Similarly, I've seen things offered which sound quite valuable. So much so that I wouldn't be surprised if some Freecycle members are snapping stuff up to sell on at car boots etc., which isn't quite the spirit intended but I suppose it's better that than said items end up in landfill.

I really do think a lot of people use Freecycle because it saves them the time and effort of going to the dump, as much as any ethical considerations.

So don't feel bad !

How old are your girls and whereabouts are you ?
