Did post this on the end of another post but it got lost....

Got DD (18 mth) a pair of shoes last week (UMI brand used to be Elefanten apparently?), she wore them once for a few hours and the die (raspberry colour!) from them is coming off on her socks where the strap across the foot goes. I rang the shop (first time I've bought shoes there) and explained last Friday, they asked me to bring the shoes (and socks?) in, I've been poorly so not able to get in but intend to go in the shop tomorrow.

All they would say is they need to see the socks and shoes before they'll discuss the matter. Shoes weren't cheap £32!

I don't really want another pair as not sure it won't happen again and didn't really like any of the others in her size - do you think they'll give a refund? Do they have to?

TIA.

i would get my money back. and if shop arent happy to do it get address for head ofice and write in, dont accept no as an answer. take shoes home rather than accept swap. i got money back for 2 pairs of shoes from adams recently after having them 6 weeks cos they had completely fallen apart

Thanks ladies I agree they are faulty but this is a little 'boutique' type of shop (family business) so I think they'll try and fob me off with another pair or an alternative. I don't mind having a look at the latter but a) don't want to pay more and b) didn't see any others at the time that I liked!

When I rang up to tell them about the problem, their reply was "no-one else has complained about the problem and we've sold a few pairs" - I really can't see it being just this one pair - she only had them on about 2 hrs max!!

Wish me luck!

were her feet sweaty? i would imagine some of the dye would come off if wet - its happened to dds shoes with various tights and socks and i never thought of returning the shoes or that it was 'faulty'

Hana - her feet are not really sweaty - not sure they get that sweaty in a child of that age (18 mo)? This is her fourth pair of shoes (all have been brightly coloured before) and I've never had a problem with any of them before this - and she's worn these socks umpteen times too. Have to say other than an Italian pair we got her I had previously stuck to Clarks and think I should have this time too (a bit cheaper and seem to be better!)! Also the dye only came off where the shoes were 'hitting' the foot the most - the strap over the foot - nowhere else which makes me think it is a fault - that bit wouldn't particularly get sweaty anyway (more the sole).

Tbh I think sweaty feet or not, I don't think dye should rub off onto socks - unless excessively wet (i.e. been in the rain with them on) which was definately not the case.

Well they wouldn't refund or exchange and tried to sell (!) me some spray to put on the underside to stop the dye bleeding!!!! They told me it's to be expected (!) and when I explained this is the fifth pair of shoes DD has had and I've never had it happen before they said they could assure me it wasn't a fault and there was nothing they could do about it! Needless to say I wasn't v happy! I asked why they couldn't have told me all this on the telephone when I called last week rather than my wasting my time going in with pair of dirty socks and shoes!!!

To top it all the owner (who served me and spoke to me when I rang to tell them) wasn't in today eventhough I'd mentioned that it would be today that I went in!! The girl did ring her to check though.

So basically wasted trip and I didn't buy the bloody spray but won't be going there again me thinks - Clarks will do from now on (although I don't like their girls styles and they only ever seem to have one or two styles in DD's size as she has narrow feet!).

Not a happy bunny . Defo shall not buy UMI shoes again! Humpf!
