I've been renting for 2and half years. We have been accepted for another property which is ready straight away. We informed our landlord of our notice on the 13th May. Our contract states notice of one calender month is required. Is this from the date of notice given? My landlord wants it till the 25th which is over 5weeks away and which more than a month. We have given notice halfway through the month and therefore he is wanting another full rent. I would be grateful for help as no one seems to answers my posts on here :(

Have a look on the Shelter website or CAB, and check what it says in your Rental Agreement.

I would have thought you would need to give notice for the date you pay rent. However, I would check your agreement as if it not in there I doubt they can enforce that.

Don't forget you need references Etc so unfortunately they have control unfortunately

The months notice is tied to the day rent is due, so if your lease started on and rent is due on the first of the month that's when notice starts and you move out by the last day of the month.

If you give notice part way through a month the 'LL can refuse to accept it and demand you pay the extra.
