Tax credits compliance

Hi there,
I'm in need of advice. I have received a letter from tax credits compliance saying that they have information that I have another adult living at my address. They have actually named my ex in the letter but used my surname instead of his. I think it is the result of a malicious call as I recently complained about a childcare provider and got this letter a week later. If it was flagged up through a credit agency surely they would have got the name correct?
I have been asked to supply details of bank statements, bills etc and told they will use credit ref agencies which is what worries me as his bank statements still come here coz he didn't have a fixed abode for ages. Everything else is in my name though. Despite a complicated history between us, we have a very amicable relationship for the sake of our kids. We reconciled for a few months last year and I ended up pregnant again but he still stayed at his mums. On paper he doesn't pay bills at his mums address so the only proof he has of living there is his driving licence. i have only just had our baby and can't sleep with worry. Any advice really would be great!!

It's probably you having had a new baby that has flagged up the investigation. They tend to assume if you have had a baby that you have a partner. I would get him to change his bank statement address to his mums if that's where he lives now .

Thanks, I've not even told them about the baby yet as I had an emergency section and haven't been able to get out to register the birth yet. That's what makes me think it's been someone calling especially when coupled with the fact they had the wrong name. Tried calling today but couldn't get through, my landlord is back from hols tomorrow so will get a copy of my lease and post all my documents. So stressed :(

It's probably not a malicious call - they are sending out a lot of letters like this and it seems quite random. Have a look at the other thread on here about Concentrix and tax credits, people will be able to give you any advice you need about the documents, etc.
