Hi I was wondering if I could have some help how long do I get smp for a few of my friends have said it goes down after 6 months but I'm sure u get the basic for 9 months? Could anyone help me I've been on maternity since the end of October 2014 so am coming up to 6 months soon so would really like to no If it's going to either stop or go down because I'm going to have to go back to work if that's the case thanks xx

If you only get SMP rather than an enhanced amount from your employer then it's 6 weeks at 90% salary then 33 weeks at £130ish, then 13 weeks unpaid. If your employer offers better terms than this, then obviously they may drop it down at 6 months but that's the minimum they can pay you

Thankyou I thought it was 9 months my friends got me really worried when they said 6 months thanks so much xx

You also accrue annual leave and bank holidays on ML in the same way as you would if you were in work, so if you take the full nine months you'll probably also build up a couple of weeks full paid time off too.

Did you not get a letter from your employer outlining what your maternity entitlement would be?

It's a family run business they don't play by the rules I only reviewed a contract of employment a year after I had been there I also get paid in cash and the last couple of weeks There hasn't been wage slips in my wage packet plus my end of year tax form and I spoke to the owner about my holidays while I'm on maternity and she said I don't acrcrue any ???? I think there trying to get away with paying don't really no what to do ???? I'm a single mum so I rely on my smp to feed and keep a roof over our heads sorry for the long post everything's happened at once today xxx

You are entitled to accrue holidays while you are on maternity. Look up the ACAS website and show your employer. They are breaking the law x

Ok Thankyou just hope I manage to get it sorted hard being a single mum to a baby as it is never mind work underpaying me and telling me lies xx
