So, DH has just been offered and accepted a job in Glasgow.
It's a good job and a great opportunity and the plan is that he goes up straight away (well, as soon as he's worked his notice on his current job) while I stay behind and put our house in London on the market before moving up to join him as soon as it sells.
What I'm trying to figure out is whether there is any chance of us being able to move house directly to a new house of our own or if we're going to have to rent for a while.
We could probably afford to buy outright in Glasgow when our house in London sells (we conservatively have about £200k of equity, maybe more, but I'm trying to keep a relatively low figure in my head) but we are potentially looking at taking a small mortgage - £25k-£50 - to get somewhere really nice that we won't be looking at moving from.
What I don't know is whether it's going to be feasible to get a mortgage under those conditions. How long will he need to be in his new job (it's a permanent job, but will have a probation period) for them to consider us?
We can either just buy outright, or wait, I know, but it would just be so much easier to not move twice in a short period of time, and £25k seems to be the difference between not having to compromise on what we want for a home. We both have good credit ratings and we'd be looking to borrow less than his annual salary.
