Child benefit should we opt back in?

Ok should have researched more before opting out but having had a conversation with a friend today re: child benefit I read that it is better not to opt out due to NI and state pension, is this true? Should I opt back in? Haven't worked properly (2 small temp jobs only) for the past 7 years! Should I opt back in and add this to DH's tax return to pay back or is there forms I need to complete for NI etc? I am a UK resident from birth if that matters?
Thanks!

You can claim child benefit but opt out of payments and that helps protect your NI contributions. from .gov website:

You can choose not to get Child Benefit payments, but you should still fill in the Child Benefit claim form. This will help you get National Insurance credits which count towards your State Pension

Thanks I've done that now! I can't remember what I did when I opted out... Ah well better late than never!
