Hi
I have received a notification of a fine from HMRC today as I didn't do my self assessment.
The bottom line is I have to pay it.
However, I haven't earned anything from self employment in 2013-14.
I am registered for self assessment having completed the return on time for that last 8 years.
Not earning anything meant this just escaped my radar.

Anyone know if I have any hope of successfully challenging the fine?
I'm a single mum of 3 with a regular PAYE day job (used to do additional private work) and could do without losing £100.
Fundamentally my stupidity in forgetting.
Thanks

DH got out of fine once by asking them to withdraw the return, (I think).

Btw, I have (weirdly) always found HMRC to be really helpful and lovely on the phone, much less scary than you'd imagine, so might be worth calling and explaining and see what they advise.

Oh my goodness. Thank you gunpowder!!!!! I though there was no hope at all but that fits the bill. Will call first thing.
