I haven't claimed tax credits for years, however on Friday I received a letter from the HMRC telling me they had over paid me by £600 (despite annual renewals etc), the latter says I need to pay before they send the bailiffs round! My issue is... This over payment was for the tax year 2008-2009! They apparently wrote to me and then changed my tax code to reclaim the money but for whatever reason that stopped. The chap I spoke to on the phone was very helpful and put me through to Tax Credits who were useless, this is after it took me half an hour to actually speak to someone.
Has anyone else had a similar experience, what did you do etc?
