Amazon is sending out the same item twice

2 days ago I ordered an item for 70 and was told my payment had been declined, and to re enter my card details, which I did. It was accepted second time round. The next morning I had 2 order confirmations in my inbox, each with different order numbers . I cancelled one of them via an email to Amazon generated on their website. This morning there were again 2 order confirmations in my inbox and both items (identical) have been dispatched. So I guess they will be charging me twice (no money has left my account as of midday today). Is it too late to stop that happening? Is there a number i can ring? And if and when I do get both items and return one of them, will I have to pay postage (it's about 200g). Thanks for your help.

You could refuse delivery of one of the items but that may be risky with a more expensive item.
I had an issue recently and was able to use their online chat via customer services. It was helpful. Maybe they can send a postage label for your return.

maybe try their online chat service?

Yes if it's a duplicate order, they can do a stop and return if there is a courier. You can also refuse delivery if no courier. They can send a free returns label if you can't refuse the order and can issue an advance refund for you. Chat is usually best, it's immediate and there is a record of what you requested. This happens so don't sweat it. Customer service is very good

Thanks everyone. I'll most likely be at work when they deliver so will try chat. I'll let you know how it goes.

I had this happen before Christmas, I was delivered 2 of the same item, I was then told to send one back or I would be charged for the item, they sent me return labels and I sent it back.

Just to update- I notified Amazon that by declining my (perfectly OK and current) card 3 times they generated 2 orders for an item I only wanted one of. I therefore asked them to pay for postage for me to return to the seller. 1st they asked the seller to pay postage. Seller not unreasonably refused, it was not an issue generated by them. I got back on chat and Amazon refused to pay postage after a rather tedious 1/2 hour chat. They rejected all responsibility for generating 2 orders and only agreed to give me a voucher to the price of the postage. I am not happy with this, i feel they were somewhat dishonest not to recognise the original problem of duplicating orders.
I will be winding down my Amazon use after I have used up my credit and I told them so. Apparently this generation of duplicate orders, and dual charging, is not uncommon
