PeppermintLatte · 18/03/2015 13:12

Hi ladies,

I've posted on this thread before (and started one myself, but the letter I got was to check my self employment)

Just been reading the last few pages to see how it's going for everyone, and noticed one poster said she thinks they accessed NHS records? Is this even legal?

This worries me, as I have mentioned on this thread before, when I separated with my ex and my DD and I went to live with my Mum, I have never changed my address at the Dr's and don't plan on doing either. Without going into too much detail my childhood Dr (Who I would need to re-register with now I live back at my childhood home) made a massive mistake with me that could have resulted in me being severely ill and possibly dying. I don't trust her and she is the only Dr at the surgery. Besides that I am extremely happy with the Dr my DD and I have now, the surgery is brilliant and I feel my DD is in safe hands there. Do I need to change my Dr? Can they access that i'm still down at ex's address for my Dr? Constantly worrying as it seems they have access to info that I thought would be under some kind of data protection law?

Also, commercial mailing lists? Do they really have access to these? I had a few things delivered from Ebay to my ex's at Christmas (DD's Christmas presents) as they needed signing for and my Mum works nights was in bed and I was out working when I knew they'd be delivered. Ex and I are very civil, he didn't mind at all as he works from home a lot of the time. Am I not allowed to do this?

Ed1982 · 18/03/2015 19:16

Hi, I have posted on this thread previously. My letter from concentrix was regarding my childcare and it began 'we think your childcare payments might be wrong'.... Which scared me to the point of sleepless nights. I have sent my letter from my childcare provider with payments made to her. Has anyone else had this same letter and have they had an outcome? Also how long have people had to wait for a decision regarding childcare? I feel like I've done something wrong when all I do is go to work and well go to bloody work...

Katy69 · 19/03/2015 10:14

There seems to be a backlog of decision letters . I called them again yesterday and I was told this . Mines was sent out over two weeks ago. . I think the decision letters of cases which tax credits do not have to be ammended were all sent out together (which looks like most of us ) thats why there is such a big delay. . If they were wanting to investigate further they would have called or sent another leter. . So those people waiting on decisions , don't panic. No news is good news and more than likely stuck in a pile. . Would be good to see it in writing though ..

flyintheointment · 20/03/2015 08:52

I read somewhere or other that HMRC gave concentricx access to their computer system which is now linked to local councils and presumably NHS (though probably not medical records just names and addresses). In one of my phone calls to concentricx I asked if the linked name could have been from a doctors appointment, their representative said " yes that's quite likely".

Any business can purchase mailing lists containing customer data, I'm pretty sure most large commercial interests see the collection and reselling of data as a profitable sideline.

The data protection act, what a laugh, you've only got have a phone number to start getting calls from people in faraway countries who claim they are a business that knows your name and address and can help you recover a PPI claim or some such nonsense.

What particularly annoys me about this is that it seems that HMRC are unable to administer tax credits properly. It's not surprising that they are also unable to effectively collect tax from business and individuals who have access to very clever accountants.

tgirl14 · 20/03/2015 09:58

Hi all. I received a letter from hmrc directly 26th Feb saying they had evidence of my ex husband living here. I sent in all evidence bank statements bills etc. We are both named on our mortgage which I explained on the covering letter. I received a phone call this morning from hmrc a lovely woman who said could she ask me a fewquestions I said ok. She asked was I having divorce proceedings I said not as yet as all was quite raw still. She also asked did I have an address for my ex I said we don't speak he pays me maintainance through the bank which you can see on statements. She said I will close the enquiry so payments will continue and she would send out notification in the post. Now I'm left wondering is that is it over. Just want letter to come now ??

AdmiralCLingus · 20/03/2015 14:40

I'm so glad i found this thread

My letter wasn't from concentrix, just hmrc, and in my case iys a bit more complicated than everyone else's, but it's reassuring to know I'm not alone.

The whole situation has had a massive impact on my mental health and am not only back on antidepressants but also sedatives at night. I feel like I'm falling apart and have been having panic attacks about it all

Morgan97 · 20/03/2015 14:51

AdmiralClingus and tgirl14 I also got my letter directly from HRMC,that was on feb 9th,sent what they wanted twice still no reply from them tho but had an extra payment from child tax credits today, has anyone else had any unexpected payments?

AdmiralCLingus · 20/03/2015 15:05

I received my ordinary payment two weeks ago but nothing since

I did call them again today and the man I spoke to said they have received my documents today, which isn't true as thhey were signed for on Monday!

Maybe its a good sign for you Morgan?

Morgan97 · 20/03/2015 15:30

AdmiralCLingus thanks for commenting I was going to ring them and ask but couldn't be bothered listening to the music ha ha, and so I wait for he postman yet again

AdmiralCLingus · 20/03/2015 15:46

I got straight through to someone on 03000566020 which is apparently the compliance line? When I tried the tax credits normal number they told me they couldn't help and gave me that number. Might be worth trying there?

I never ever have felt so massively overwhelmed with worry and anxiety. I feel sick every time I have to spend money on anything in case I get no more, as my wages barely cover my outgoings Sad. It terrifies me that I'm not going to be able to feed my child or afford my bus fare to work

tgirl14 · 20/03/2015 16:00

No unexpected payments for me Morgan....I wish lol. I'm assuming she means that they have closed the enquiry and that's it over but knowing my luck I'll get a letter saying different. I have bad nerves so I panicked on the phone and never thought of questions till after. I will post when I receive letter. Morgan did anyone ever phone you?

Temporaryanonymity · 20/03/2015 18:47

ED1982 I had the same letter as you, and had to respond by the 12 March so I'm still waiting. Mine is complicated by the fact that whilst the figure they have for me is correct now, what I've paid doesn't reflect it as I did not work for two months and cancelled childcare. I also notified them of this. I'm a bit stressed out by it all too; I'm a lone parent working full-time with no support from anyone.

Karo3161 · 20/03/2015 19:40

Following this week's budget there's going to be a lot more phishing of this nature - they've got 12 billion to find from the Welfare budget (if re elected.) The millionaires and big companies seem to be safe so I guess it's going to fall on everyday, hardworking, trying to hold our families together people - perhaps we should start a collection?

Morgan97 · 20/03/2015 22:01

tgirl14 no phone call from anyone, from what you've said it sounds like the enquiry for you has been sorted and they will let you by post.AdmiralCLingus I'm like you overwhelmed with worry and five weeks of not sleeping properly is taking its toll,I too am reluctant to spend money,I've been walking to work and back just so I can save the bus fare!! I got an unexpected payment from child tax credits today but no letter so not touching it in case they've made a mistake. Frightening really

PeppermintLatte · 21/03/2015 09:21

flyintheointment Thank you for that info. Do you think I need to register with my old GP again? Really don't want to. The thing is, HMRC knew I lived at ex's address when I registered at the Dr's, as ex & I claimed together (for some help with nursery fees) so surely there's nothing to prove if you just haven't gotten round to changing GP? Ex owns and rents another property in the area to his cousin, I could ask him to put that as his address for his Dr's? Or am I being paranoid now?

I don't know about anyone else, but i'm worried sick over this election. Apparently the tories (should they be re-elected - please God noooooooo!!!) will be cutting a further £16 billion from welfare. Think it would be safe to say we would all be fucked. I think CB would go for all of us.

Karo3161 · 21/03/2015 09:31

Received a letter this morning dated 10th March (they really need to get their posting department sorted) saying they do not need to amend my award. Unfortunately they haven't returned the original birth certificates I sent in so will still have to chase them for those. I've not heard of anyone having their award changed following one of these letters; which seems to prove it was a very general letter rather than an evidenced based check!

Redhead11 · 21/03/2015 09:53

I sent off my paperwork at the last possible minute, including a strongly worded letter that told them i expected my paperwork returned by registered post, or i would be suing them, and also told them that i had reported this to my MP (who hasn't responded - sarky cow!) and my MSP. I have to admit that i forgot about contacting my MSP, but i duly received my documents back a few weeks later by registered post. Last week, another few weeks later, i received a letter saying that they were happy that i had not been claiming fraudulently. Well, thanks for nothing. My work hours may be increasing soon and i would be eligible to claim WTC again, but i am now wary about having anything to do with them. Since I first received this a few years ago, I have been treated like shit and made to feel like a moron every time I have been in contact with them. Is a few measly quid worth the hassle?

AdmiralCLingus · 21/03/2015 09:56

well i think its safe to say that the tories will not be getting my vote or anyone in my family!

I cant imagine how bad my mental health will get after 5 weeks morgan as im in a bloody mess after 3! Im taking anti depressants and sedatives for the anxiety, having panic attacks, constantly shaky, and i broke down in tears at work the other day. My poor dd is getting the brunt of it too, as I keep loosing my temper and its entirely not her fault, poor child Sad I'm going to end up getting sectioned if this carries on!

Our situation is complicated by the fact we rent from dds dad, as we are still amicable after our separation 18 months ago. They told me on the phone that it looks like her dad is "keeping" us.... I get NO MONEY from him for anything!!! He's never bought a pack of nappies or clothes for dd, I'm the one that feeds her, clothes her, buys her christmas and birthday presents! If he was "keeping" us I wouldnt have to go to work for pennies, and watch every penny I bloody spend in case she needs something! My wages barely cover my outgoings so I really dont know wtf we will do if they stop the tax credits. There will be no food in the cupboards and ill be walking 16 miles a day to and from work!!!

Redhead11 · 21/03/2015 10:05

Just to add - I do live with someone else, in a house share, not a relationship. I have had to prove this every year since I moved in and last year i had my WTC stopped because they decided that I was lying to them. I had to provide all my evidence again and after a lengthy delay, the money was restarted - then cut by 3/4!

I feel as though I have been targeted again and again and again. HMRC don't know their arse from their elbow. The last person i spoke to there, when reporting a change of circumstance, asked me all sorts of questions i couldn't answer (what's your employee number for example) and then said it didn't matter because they didn't need to know that. So why ask??? And only after 20 minutes of questions and telling me that my WTC would go up (hah!) he 'realised' that i was no longer eligible because I was no longer working enough hours. Why didn't i know that? Well, why should I, because he clearly didn't bloody know it either and he works for them!

The whole thing is an absolute disaster and there should be a public inquiry into the working of HMRC.

Morgan97 · 21/03/2015 10:42

AdmiralCLingus I do feel for you, think I can safely say nearly all of us on this thread are feeling the strain of this it's disgusting we are made to feel this way,try and stay strong as I'm sure everything will be sorted out for all of us. Redhead11 I too live in a house share and was told by HMRC they wanted to know if I was financially independent errrrm ok so why not put that on the letter.in my covering letter to them I told them without tax credits I would be homeless and therefore have to leave work, claim job seekers and housing benefit costing the government more. These people don't care and they haven't got a clue what they're doing, they give us all a deadline then keep us waiting for weeks on end Disgusting

MozzchopsThirty · 21/03/2015 11:23

Had letter today saying that they don't need to amend my award (no shit)

So now I can stop stressing over it

It's so wrong that so many of us single parents are being made to feel like criminals for claiming benefits we are entitled too

ReallyNotMe · 21/03/2015 11:29

Temporaryanonymity and Ed I got the same letter in February saying they thought my childcare costs could be wrong. I sent in a load of original documents by Special Guaranteed Delivery which were signed for on 5 March (cost me about £6).

Today I received another letter, identical to the first so I called them to ask what was going on. The guy said 'oh it's because you didn't send anything from your childcare provider', then I said that I had and they had been signed for. I offered to email him the scanned signature to prove this and he said I have to post it. So now have to send that, yet again at a costs of £6, probably only for them to deny ever receiving it. Grrrr.

Am actually wondering if they have some sort of financial interest in the post office as they seem to be the only people benefiting from all this!

Anyway really hope you both get sorted soon. My nursery owner said she has been approached by 16 parents asking for letters and there are only 38 kid who go there :(
