Advice on selling diamond ring

I have a diamond ring which I believe to be very valuable, however a local jeweller offered me less than half what I expected, is that normal or is there a better place where I could try to sell it?

She should have been able to tell without asking.

Maybe she's new to the business.

Colour has been confirmed by other jeweller now. Definitely not going back to first one.

Can you tell the colour straight away?

Pretty much yes. Every now and then there'll be one that's borderline and so will need to have a really, really good look but it's usually quite straightforward.
I know the quality of a stone when I see one and would expect any jeweller worth their salt who is giving valuations to know what they're looking at.

I'd get appraised by GIA for a strict reporting of colour, clarity and particularly cut. MrsC, would love to know if you sell to the public. Am a big fan of antique diamonds!

Apatite, I've found that its easiest just to do auctions but I do source pieces for people.

Dear diamond ring. I own a valuable ring that when I took it to Sotheby auction for valuation told me it was worth a quarter of its insurance value . Yes I still have the ring!!! Wasn't worth parting with it!!!!

Second jeweller has offered 50 % more than the first, which makes me wonder...
