I know its not good leaving work pregnant but i couldnt take it anymore. Im constantly sick and have bad sciatica but my doctor would not sign me off saying "pregnancy is not a illness" i feel like i cant work and very ill. Im now getting my depression back. Is there any support out there? I know you cant claim maternity allowance until much later. Sad

So have you quit your job or are you looking to be signed off sick? Sorry, it's not clear from your post.

You need to see a different doctor.

The CAB will do a benefit check for you if you go and see them Smile

Pregnancy isn't an illness. Sciatica is, and may or may not be bad enough to need signing off work, or you may need a "may be fit to work" note that states that you can do desk work but not physical work. I'd suggest see a different GP and start again. Quitting your job was unwise as I believe it means you don't get JSA for a while so maybe worth seeing if you can withdraw your resignation.

A doctor is quite right not to issue a sick note if he feels you can work. You could have spoken to your employers and agreed reduced hours etc before quitting.

You can get a 24 week benefit sanction for quitting. It starts when your claim begins, so claim quickly.

It'll need to be JSA if your doctor won't sign you off, you need regular sick notes for ESA.

Maternity allowance can kick in 11 weeks before you are due. Whether you'll be eligible will depend on how much you've worked - I think needs to be 26 weeks out of 66 prior to when due.

change gp's yes you can be too ill too work and it's bad for a gp not to appreciate that.

I was given 8 weeks off for morning sickness. I couldn't leave my bed it was that bad
