Hi has this happened to anyone else and what did you do or what do you suggest I do?
I sold a coat on eBay at the end of august, got the In mypaypal account and sent the coat off to the buyer on 1st sept I tracked it with Royal Mail. I emailed the buyer to tell her I'd Sent it to her and had a friendly email back. All good so far, then last weekend paypal emailed me to say the buyers bank had requested the money be returned to her account. I emailed the buyer to ask her if she knew why and she clamed not to know and promised to contact her bank. We sent emails to and fro over the weekend andshethen told me her bank had lifted the restriction and the money wouldbe back in my paypal acc.
I checked my bank acc today and the money has been taken out of my acc so I rang paypal who said the case isnt resolved!! And the buyers payment was an unauthorised withdrawal from her bank!
Not only that, but last week before this blew up I threw the post office receipt out, so I've no proof of postage!! I searched the history on my computer in case I froundthe tracking number there and it doesn't go back far ebough.

So...... What can I do? am I out of pocket, does she get a free coat??

So a month after you sold an item through eBay, the buyer's bank contacted PayPal for a refund saying the payment was unauthorised? Do you think the payment has come from another person's bank account, they saw the payment a few weeks later on their statement and said "that want me?" So either fraud or a genuine mix-up?

Nellymay · 10/10/2014 22:36

mipmop I don't know. When I sold the item, I was given a different name by ebay to what she replied to my email with and I didn't think anything of it. When I emailed her last week she said she was having to provide PayPal with ID like her bank statements and driving license to prove it was her bank account and later she said the "limit" on her account had been lifted

She also offered to send me a cheque- no way! It might bounce!
So, can I fight it with PayPal? or do I cut my losses?

Why not take a cheque. Paypal can 'bounce' as you have found out, so it is not really any different.

If paypal has lifted the restriction, can she send you the money via paypal as a payment between people, or does it have to be via the ebay system?

I've emailed the buyer to say it doesn't appear to be sorted with PayPal yet and how annoyed I am. She replied that she thought I was sorted at her end and has now transferred the money from her paypal account into mine. She says she'll deal with PayPal. So...... I'll leave it to her.......
