Ive just split up with my partner.
Its his house and I have no where else to go with my two children.
Hes hagreed to let me stay till Im sorted. Hes been staying on the couch.
Would I be able to claim any tax credits as a single person? I currently dont get them as I gave them up when we moved in together, obviously the financial help he gave me will be no more and Im really stuck.

You have to be able to satisfactorily demonstrate that you are not living as a couple and that requires quite a lot of detail about finances. Nothing must be shared.

I'm going to have to obviously pay my half though? Will they expect me not to? I'm putting into a joint bill account, I won't be receiving anything from him?

Hi astewart

Sorry to read about your situation.
I can totally recommend talking to the lovely people at www.turn2us.org.uk
They will be able to give you advice and you won't be waiting on the Tax Credit "Helpline" for half an hour!

Hope that's helpful. Best of luck. :-)

I think if you are still living together in the same house then it will be quite hard for you to prove that you are living separately. Especially if bills are shared.
