Hi all
after some advice. I split with partner earlier this year. We have a house jointly. We tried to sell this house but no luck. So eventually we rented it out. We had to as neithrr of us could afford to live there alone. Its quite a large mortgage.
I now rent a flat with my children. I put in a claim for housing benefits in February. I was awarded some this has gone a good way to helping me. My problem is the council have now said they want to see proof of a sale or the rent aggrement they also want to know hiw much we charge snd how often. NOw we make nothing at all on this property. It doesnt even cover the full mortgsge and estate agents fees as they manage the property for us.
Will my housing benefits be stopped ? Am a bit worried ..

They're interested in income and assets. Your house is an asset but if you're deriving no income from your rental business and you haven't sold the asset then that's what you have to demonstrate. Presumably your estate agent keeps a record of the rent and fees? You just have to match that up with a record of your mortgage payments.

... should add.... mortgage payments and any other costs associated such as maintenance
