hi
im just wondering how much electric and gas other people tend to use over the winter months as i seemed to use alot last year and have seemed to use alot since going from prepayment meter back to a normal bill.i know prices have gone up but id be interested in knowing if anyone else seems to use alot.

ive been using around £10-£15 on each each week when its cold weather.is that normal?

ive been having alot of hassle with british gas and they havent done my billd right since i had the prepayment meter taken away which was february and they're only now deciding to sort it out.
im hoping they dont decide i owe alot of money as i havent got it to give them! they'll have to stick a prepayment meter back in if they do.tey still had me on their system as being on prepayment and payments are going off the account from somewhere so my bills were wrong.

can i complain and be compensated? ive been tying to sort the account out for months and people fob me off to other people and then the line goes dead, ive even written and got a reply that they would contact me within 10 days in writing and ive had nothing.the man on the phone said they havent written as im on prepayment!
IM NOT!!!!

any advice/help please

British Gas are CRAP. We were in a flat for a year and they didn't bill us correctly once. DP and I spent hours on the phone, on email etc trying to sory it out. We've now bought our own house and are switching to Southern Electric. Not sure where you are and what is available to you, but you couldn't pay me enough to switch back to BG. Useless bunch of idiots.

uswitch.com gives you the best provider based on your area and recent bills.

I also had cr*p with BG

mumandlovingit · 28/09/2006 17:05

how do i switch if there is a dispute on the account and it isnt up to date? can i do that? i think southern electric are in our area as i know people 2 or 3 miles away on it.

the gas here has never been messed up but the electric payments we made when on prepayment from when we moved in went onto someone elses's account as they didnt change the name over.£101 payments went missing and they were sorting it out, then billed wrong, no winter rebate we're due.they even sent us a cheque for £10 that was credit still on the meter when they took it out and now they've billed wrong again, people on the phone contradict each other and the man said that ts showing that the prepayment meter is still in so bills from february will be wrong and someone has been making payments to the account.he doesnt know if its the accounts dept getting sorted from the mistakes before or payments are being put on by mistake and therefore they'll be take off and i'll owe loads! can i refuse to pay through all this?

can i switch to a different company and then make british gas sort it all out properly before i pay them anything?

go to u-switch.com. they will tell you if its worth swapping.

Flamesparrow · 28/09/2006 17:10

As far as I recall you can swap, BG then just send you a final bill that you have to settle... dunno how it works if you can't pay it all off though.

lizziemun · 28/09/2006 17:22

i can only say from a monthly direct debit payments have for gas gone from £20.00 per month to £47.00 a month and electic has gone from £50.00 a month to £79.00 and month and we have just had our yearly settlement bill for electric which was a £160.00. I don't think you can compare prices from last year to this as they have gone up by so much.

mumandlovingit · 28/09/2006 17:33

thsnks.i will discuss it all with my dad, he knows more about electric etc than me.i'll see what they come back with this time from their 'sorting the account out' and go from there.
so many households will be sitting in the cold this winter because they cant afford to heat their house!
ive already decided that im going to just use the amount i need over winter and worry about paying for it when the bill comes through.they've always been ok with the gas bill so i know thats up to date.
